This morning we woke up to rain so a rather slow start for this trek. Trekkers were picked up from the Crowne Plaza around 8:30 and driven to where the porters were waiting for us. Not long afterwards backpacks were loaded onto our Nissan Patrol Ute while the guide and porters and trekkers were dry inside my Toyota Prado.

Not long after we arrived at Bomana War Cemetery where trekkers decided to put on their poncho's as it was light but steady rain to have a look around.

    The two trekkers are:

Peter Colby, who stated it was part of his 'bucket list' and his mate Philip Walshe.

Due to the rain last night we made a decision to drop off trekkers and porters at Vesulogo. A slow slippery drive in 4 wheel drive conditions was how we reached this point. The plan today was to reach Goldie River where they would spend the night.

Photographs below were taken shortly before they headed off towards Owers' Corner.

21st May: We have not heard from the track today but we think they should be spending tonight at Ofi Creek if everything went according to plan.

We should hear from them at Naoro tomorrow and will post something as soon as we do.

22nd May: Sorry have not heard from them again today as its been raining here pretty much all day so they may be having problems getting a message out to us by two way radio. However, Peter mentioned he too was carrying a sat phone so if they needed to get hold of us I am sure they would have by now.

We assume they would have made it to either Naoro or Agulogo and tomorrow they should be at Efogi the half way point. Will post some details as soon as we hear from the track.

23rd May: We have heard from our guide a couple of times today. Seems Phillip is having problems with his ankle and can no longer go on. Peter has also decided to call it quits and both trekkers will be picked up from Menari tomorrow morning and flown off the track.

With the rain its been pretty tough conditions out there on the track. Peter I believe will come back another time to finish off what he started this time round.

At the moment both trekkers and porters are ok and resting for the night at Menari Village.

    Peter and Philip

Do not know either of you feel bad for not getting all the way but bloody good on you both for giving it a go and getting as far as you did. It is not easy at all quite hard in fact as I found out last year when we had rain on 7 days of our 9 day trek.

To be honest with you had it not been for the dedication for their job I well made not have made it myself without the help of my guide Wallace Lemeki and porter Bredan Buka these two chaps really were my Guardian (Fuzzy Wuzzy) Angels.

Do not let it worry you that you did not make it all the way you gave it your best and did well getting as far as you did and you rightfully should be congratulated for that.

For those reading this the track certainly is a challenge particularly in the wet but certainly quite possible do not though just take it for granted get that training in the harder and more you can do the easy your trek will be for you.

Philip as we have read unfortunately injured his ankle this can happen to anyone even walking down the street at home.

24th May: Trekkers have been picked up this morning out of Menari and have been dropped back at their hotel. They are both in good spirits and looking forward to doing something else in the next couple of days before returning back to Australia.
