Boss Meri
MemberFirstly my apologies for not putting anything up yesterday as I was flat out organising a medevac off the track of two young teenagers out of Kokoda and Isurava. Then last night my internet connection was down. This morning we had a pick up from Owers' Corner and I am not long back in the office after dropping off at respective hotels.
The group we picked up today passed this group of trekkers yesterday and said at that time everyone was ok. In this group, we have some return trekkers and a couple of new guys. Their guides is Tony Ogomeni and his assistant is Dominic Biaga.
List of Trekkers:
1. Michael Phipps (Return Trekker)
2. Jon Grant
3. Peter Storer (Return Trekker Trek 381)
4. Ken Hill (Return Trekker Trek 381)
5. Kevin Clement
6. Brett HarrisonNow have photographs on hand so will post them now.

Member19th April: Have heard today from our guide Tony Ogonemi that trekkers are now heading for Ofi Creek where they will spend the night. Unfortunately Michael Phipps has taken ill and is vomiting and will be air lifted off the track. He is presently resting at Ioribaiwa Village and we are in the process of organising a helicopter to go out and pick him up. The call only came through around 2:30pm and I have already had two phone calls from Mondial Assistance so they are on to it.

Member19th April 11:08 pm: Michael was brought in by helicopter around 6pm tonight and was taken to the Pacific International Hospital. He was put on a drip for dehydration and has just been collected and dropped off at the Lamana Hotel where he will spend the night.
I met with him earlier when he was brought in by chopper and he seemed very disappointed as it was the same area that his son was air lifted from when they walked previously a year or so back.
He told me that Kevin Clement was enjoying himself doing research of eco tourism and taking lots of photographs along the way and seemed to be doing it easy. As for the others they too were powering along with no problems.
Our thanks to Mondial Assistance and also to Heli Niugini for their prompt action in getting Michael into Port Moresby for the medical attention he needed. He said he had drank 6 ltrs of water and thought it was enough but after lying down for awhile he got up and started vomiting and new it was all over red rover and it was decided to get him out.
Russell has just walked in the door and said he had just booked him into the hotel and that he is ok.

Member20th April: This trek has now reached Agulogo Campsite area where they will spend the night. According to their guide Tony Ogomeni, all remaining trekkers are doing well. When they phoned they asked about Michael and we informed them by two way radio that he had been on a drip and released last night from hospital.

Member22nd April: Trekkers have now reached the half way point of Efogi. Today they will push on to Myola Junction where they will spend the night. All remaining trekkers are doing fine according to the last report.
Michael no doubt you will be reading about their progress and wishing you were still out there. Our thoughts are with you and trust you are now feeling ok.
Photographs: Efogi Village Guesthouse where they spent the night and a river crossing in this area of the track.

MemberDAD, PA (Peter) Have you found any of my sporks you stole and then proceeded to lose last year?? Im sure one was at Efogi. There was another at Eora Creek and I think Templetons crossing……just have a look as you pass though!!
Must be looking forward to that climb up into Kagi tomorrow…….NOT!! Although after climbing Up brigade hill today it was a good training run.
And another thing, Baden Powell from the boy scouts rang and wants his hat back when your finished, that is a shocker.
1/2 way and most of the hard bits out of the way, well sort of.One more question…..Did you remember to get ALL your bags off the carousel this year?? I hope Kenny and Jon are looking after you, someone has to.
Good luck with the rest of the trek
Hope your having fun, stay safe
Ben, Chrissy, Mason and Amber.

Member24th April: Have not heard from the track as they have been down low but no doubt will hear today as they push up to Alola and down around the corner to the Isurava Memorial.
I guess no news is good news – will report as soon as I hear anything.

Member25 April 2009: Trekkers attended the Anzac Day service at Bomana this morning and then shortly after, commenced their walk down into Kokoda arriving at Orohaven our base camp around 1pm this afternoon.
So CONGRATULATIONS to Trek 493 for successfully completing their trek. They will no doubt rest a little today and I believe they are all looking forward to PIZZA's tonight as our guide said they heard on the track that we now have a pizza oven.

Member25th April: Have heard from Kokoda that trekkers had arrived and that they were enjoying some time with their guide and porters before they depart Kokoda tomorrow for their flight back to Port Moresby.
No doubt if they are drinkers, they will be enjoying a few SP's. They will probably be sleeping pretty much the same as the trekkers in the photograph below…and will be more than likely enjoying their first flushing toilet since leaving Port Moresby.
