Update 7th November: Trekkers have now reached Eora Creek and tomorrow will head to Alola, Isurava Monument and then on to Isurava Village where we are assuming they will spend the night.

We did not hear from them today as they are down low but am expecting a radio call tomorrow when they reach Alola area.

When I spoke with Tarina yesterday he said they were on their way to 1900 and that they were all doing ok.

Hi all, it sounds from that last post (and looking at my map) that they are ahead of schedule- is that right- maybe that they will finish on Monday instead of Tuesday…???

Update 8th November: Angie, no its me that ahead of schedule….haha I got it all wrong! When I was told that I thought they were already there but it was only the guides projection for the following day – TODAY…

Tarina called up today when they reached the Kokoda Gap and it suddenly hit me!

So they are right on schedule and tonight they are at Eora Creek not last night.

Tarina mentioned that everyone was still doing fine and that they were now on the home stretch and on Oro Province soil having crossed the border today. By now the boys will be excited knowing they have almost got this group of trekkers to Kokoda! Somehow the tempo always builds up when they look down from the gap towards Kokoda – perhaps they start to dream about their home cooked meals waiting for them when they arrive home!

Tomorrow they will have quite a steep walk up to Alola Village and the awesome sight of the Isurava Monument to look forward to. Tarina promised to radio in tomorrow when they reach Alola so weather permitting this will happen.

Update 9th November: We just spoke to Tarina and the group have now passed through Isurava Monument area and have now reached Isurava Village where they have stopped for the night with the exception of two who have broke away and decided to walk out into Kokoda today instead of tomorrow.

It was a very noisy conversation hence we are not too sure who broke away and which boys are accompanying them. However, it was confirmed they two trekkers are now heading to Kokoda and we think one of them might be Gary.

Tarina said they are all ok and looking forward to walking off the track tomorrow.

Well if it is Gary at least that means he is not injured! I did tell him that sleeping without a mat would be uncomfortable… but i didn't realise it would be so bad that he would need to walk faster just to get that soft and comfy bed a night sooner. Or maybe he just couldn't stand that Mr Buka did it in 16 hours….Anyway I hope wherever they all are that they are all safe and OK- we are all soooo looking forward to hearing all the news!
Where will they stay overnight- in Kokoda?

Well Ange, if Gary were one of the two, you can bet who the other was! Whatever precipitated it and whoever the two were, hopefully it all comes back together for a great completion of a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Hmm. Looking at those huts I know I stayed at worse accomodations while vacationing on the Gold Coast. Never do THAT again. Hmph. Guess once-in-a-lifetime can mean different things at different times. Make the most of this experience guys!

Update 12th November: Sorry I could not update until now as my internet was down until this 1pm today.

As I type this trekkers are on their way home to Australia having successfully completed their trek.

The two that broke loose from the group was Gary and Mick not Kym.

Last night we met with the group at the Gateway Hotel and took the following photographs:

All trekkers seem to enjoy their experience. Gary mentioned he may come back again with his wife next time. Andrew was lucky and his passport came good on Monday so he was able to return to Australia along with other trekkers. Rumour has it he will never trek again as he gave away his camping gear!
