Last night I had the pleasure of meeting up with our latest group of trekkers at the Hideaway Hotel who headed out today to Kokoda. They were made up as follows:

Peter, Keith & Ross Dorling; Rod Nicholls; Brian Quarrell; Ed Coppe and David Witcombe.

Photographs below were taken this morning:

When we met last night they were all wearing t/shirts with the wording 'The Bucket List' on the back of their shirts hence the name I have set the trek up as.

I had fun this morning trying to explain to two of my national workers what it meant as they had not seen the movie and were curious to know why they put this on their t/shirts.

So I went looking through the internet and found a pic as seen below. I asked them both what their wish list might be made up of….both replied….they would like to become a businessman and run a successful business.

After waiting around for sometime for the weather to clear in Kokoda, they were soon boarding their flight. Some 25 minutes later they were on the ground in Kokoda.

Several have asked if these photographs would be up on the website so how about some feedback from their family and friends….anyone want to register and post a message? Do they look like they are on the adventure of their life?

Johnsford Eroro their guide called up by sat phone to say they were about to have their dinner at our camp in Kokoda where they are staying the night.

I asked what time they planned on moving out tomorrow and he replied 6:30am. To be ready to move out by then it will mean an early rise for these trekkers – the first of many to come.

The aim tomorrow is to get to Isurava Village where they will spend the night.

Dear Davo, Yeah looks pretty tough over there at Kokoda, the accomodation is better than the three star thingo we stay at in Qld. Where are the leachs? Where are the blisters, blood, torrential rain and Pythons? Davo you guys are representing Geelong and yes it is a race so get going break records and do us all proud. We are watching you all, so behave yourselves and have a great time. With love from Dodge and all your friends at GGS.

    PS: Go Cats

PSS: Davo can you turn a little to the left for the photos it is a better profile for you – Benno says so!

    Hi Davo and Team,

All is good here in Geelong. Big night at footy tonight; both coaches still playing games with teams etc. Luke Hodge's wife still not dropped so he may or may not be in. Reckon he will play. Gazza still likely for next week. By now the leaches will have found good places to hide (remember what i told you about the salt and lighter), feet will be toughened up and backs used to carrying the weight.

Stay safe!! Andrew and team at GGS

    David and the Bucket Listers,

The Cats are a super team!!!!!!
Geelong won last night by 11pts….without Ablett, Ling, Milburn, Wojo and Chapman (who did his hamstring and didn't play in the 2nd half).
The Hawks threw everything they had at the Cats…and still came up short.

It was a epic contest. Not a highly skilful game, just a really high posession and high pressure game.
Cats withstood the pressure to win 88 to 77.

Hope you are all safe. Enjoy!!!
    Go Cats!!!!!!!!!!

Update 26th July: Sorry, have not heard from the track until today when they phoned in for the FOOTBALL SCORE!!! I bet they were excited when they heard that the CATS won by 11 points.

Yes, I quickly googled and up come the result.

I asked how they were and the reply was 'the hardest thing they have ever done and wondered why they had not chosen to sit on a beach somewhere'. They are toughing it out though and doing quite well. David I heard was doing it the hardest but our guide is quite confident he will get them to Owers' Corner.

Last night they spent at Eora Creek and tonight they will be 1900 Myola Junction.

Message from David after reading all your messages out at Efogi where they have reached today.

    quote:

All the team is doing well but I am struggling. I will make it though!

Its tougher than I have ever experienced and I don't think I will ever do it again.

He then added that they have so much respect now for the diggers in 1942 and just do not know how they did it. This is often echoed by our trekkers.

He added that our team of KTL porters are amazing and doing a really good job to get them all home.
