MemberToday we said goodbye to another group of trekkers who headed out from Owers' Corner. Two were picked up from the Holiday Inn and the other trekkers from the Gateway Hotel around 6:30am this morning and driven out to Owers' Corner. There they met up with Andrew their guide and other porters who would be walking with them along the track.
Trekkers are:
Dusty Millar; Bev Carruthers; Peter Sheehan and Richard Sheehan; Rod Shepherd; Julie Davis; Kristi Lacey-Powell; Fiona and Denis Rayner; Vera McMahon; Shiralee Ottway and Eric Van Der List
Photograph: Group Photographs taken today. The first one in the back of our truck commonly known as KTL2 and the other at Owers' Corner archway shortly before they descended down their first hill. Looks like the last photograph was taken before the last porter had a chance to get in the pic so our apologies for this.

MemberHello Kristi and Julie, thinking of you both. Hope the sore spots are holding up ok. Corinne and Sue lee send their love and best wishes.
Bet ya wish you were swinging in a hammock between a couple of coconut trees, sipping a pina-colada and watching the sun go down over the crystal clear waters of Nusa Island Resort.
Stop dreaming, pull those socks up and continue trudging along that shitty, muddy trail.
Love to you both….Al08/07/2008 at 2:59 pm #100384Boss Meri
MemberUpdate 8th July:Have not heard from the group today but we know they made it to Nauro last night.
Fiona Rayner was airlifted off the track yesterday and is now recovering at the Gateway Hotel from a viral infection. Hubby is plodding on.
By now trekkers should have reached Menari and tomorrow should be in Efogi.

MemberHi Dad!! Is Richard carrying you yet?? We are coping well with the 4 German boys who have replaced you. They are also enjoying the photos and news of all of you.
Hope your legs are holding out and you're not getting too mosquito bitten.
Love you,

MemberUpdate 10th July: Sorry, Andrew their guide managed to get a call out to us today to say they were at Naduri lookout and were heading down to Templeton's I where they would spend the night.
The radio has been very busy every time he has tried to get through with all kinds of problems with so many trekkers presently walking the track.
He said the three women were doing it tougher than the rest.
Andrew went on to say, that their group has spread out as he has some really fast guys up front, some in the middle and the women down the back.
However, its not a race, so as long as they all make it ok to the next place they plan on staying the night it really does not matter with us as we are not running a boot camp.
GO girls GO!!!

MemberI think they mentioned Julie and Vera but not too sure about the third. Fiona is already off the trek and will fly into Kokoda tomorrow to meet up with her husband when he comes off the track.

MemberUpdate 6:30pm 11th July: Have just spoken to Andrew and he advised me they had reached Alola Village in one piece and were sitting around having their dinner when he decided to give me a call by his sat phone.
I read out all the messages posted and I am sure there are a few tears out there right now.
Tomorrow they head to Kokoda and they all seemed to be really looking forward to it.
The way Andrew spoke most of the women have their share of blisters but the men appear to be ok.
Just listening to Andrew right now, I think the women will never stop talking about their trek as they have stuggled everday but hung in and stuck it out – gutsy women!
Their porters as well will be really happy when they get their trekkers to Kokoda.
I spoke to Peter and Rod and they send their regards. Peter is not looking forward to the downhill from Isurava Village to Hoi so might have to dig deep tomorrow but is doing ok.
Fiona who was airlifted off the track at Ua'Ule Creek is flying into Kokoda tomorrow as a surprise for her husband when he walks off the track! Andrew told me tonight that he keeps asking after her so it should put a huge
on his face when he sees her in Kokoda. I told Andrew not to tell him so it will be a surprise, lets hope he can keep a secret…haha
So there you go, you are sitting around back home and they are all sitting around a campfire out in the bush on the Kokoda Track.
I heard tonight by radio that there is a HUGE group heading their way made up of 39 trekkers and over 100 porters! They will more than likely meet tomorrow when they head down to Isurava Monument area.
Tomorrow at some stage they will turn a corner and there will be the Isurava Monument looking back at them….what an awesome sight!
