Update 20th September: Our guide Tarina called in today from the Kokoda Gap and said trekkers were all doing ok and looking forward to reaching Kokoda. Tomorrow will no doubt be a big day as they work their way towards reaching their goals.

They will reach the village of Alola, and then later on walk around the corner to the view of the Isurava Monument which is just an awesome experience.

    Pic 1: Isurava Monument
Pic 2: A great view of Alola Village. The walk up the hill from Eora Creek is quite steep at the top sor a good climb for the trekkers tomorrow.

Update 22nd September: Just heard by two way radio this morning that trekkers made it to Alola yesterday. They were trying to push on but some found the going tough so a decision was made to stay at Alola for the night and walk out today.

They all have a big day today then as the walk from Alola to Kokoda is quite a long one. But hey, they finish today sometime so have done extremely well.

    Donna,

Good going to you all. I would not have made it past the first day. You are all doing well. Looking forward to seeing you in a few day. Say hello to Deanna, stuart and the rest of the group. Remember dads words. Grandad and Dad would have been proud of you as I am. Erich is following your trek also. Matthew and Alicia and myself will see Erich tonight so we will be talking about the trek.

    Love Mum

About now they should be walking out of the bush at the last village called Kovelo. They will then have about an hour and a half's walk to Kokoda.

When they arrive in Kokoda they will have a look around what is commonly referred to as the Kokoda Station:

Update 6:15pm: Our guide Tarina just radioed in to say they were all safely at Rusty's Kokoda block. They apparently arrived around 4:30pm this afternoon.

At the time I spoke to Tarina, they were having their dinner. He said they were very 'happy' to have completed their trek.

They would no doubt have arrived at the block and then gone for a wash in the creek before settling down for their evening meal.

The plan now is for them to sleep in one of the guesthouses on mattresses with pillows and sheets….then tomorrow morning travel down to Popondetta by road. After looking around Popondetta they will travel out to Gona where they will overnight.

On Monday we have a charter booked for 8am to go down to Popondetta to pick them up.

Photograph: KTL 1 the truck they will drive down to Popondetta/Gona in which is based at Rusty's block in Kokoda:
