MemberSome of the trekkers in this trek were in for a rude shock yesterday when their gear failed to show up in Port Moresby. When I received their phone call around 4pm yesterday I could sense the urgency in the voice as to what are we going to do?
By the time we met up with them at the Gateway Hotel at 6pm we had a few choices to put to them after they confirmed their gear had been found but would not be here in Port Moresby until after their chartered aircraft had left for Kokoda.
The end result was that we went into motion last night and split up the group. We had our team in Kokoda unpack all the packs and make it a 6 person trek walking from Kokoda with our Guide Harold Hauro.
Another 3 person trek heading out from Owers' Corner later in the day after their baggage had arrived under the leadership of Kingsley Boropi. Kingsley quickly got together the three personal porters and food porters and they came back in on the flight the others flew out on earlier in the day along with the food which had been sent out previously waiting for the trekkers to arrive.
So now trek 386 is made up as follows:
Trek 1 trekkers – Guide Harold Hauro – Kokoda to Owers' Corner:
- Chad Ramadan
- James Crow
- John Raftery
- David King
- Graham Lauridsen
- Kelvin Balakrishnan
Trek 2 trekkers – Guide Kingsley Boropi – Owers' Corner to Kokoda
- Steven Coker
- Myles Coker
- Jason O'Hara

MemberUpdate 28th June: Its raining here in Port Moresby and we were advised by Kingsley Boropi our guide heading out from this end that its VERY WET on the track. They had all made it to Ioribaiwa Village and were heading towards Nauor where they planned on spending the night. He said it was tough going as LOTS OF MUD and quite slippery.

MemberUpdate 30th June: Sorry I could not post anything yesterday as I could not access the internet. Kingsley called in from Naoro saying the three who commenced from this end due to lost baggage, were at Nauro mid afternoon but were pushing on as the guesthouse was full. Around 1:30pm I heard from him again saying they were at Brigade Hill and heading towards Efogi. All trekkers were doing ok.
As for the trekkers heading in the opposite direction, they are in a low area right now and its hard to get out a radio message. However, we heard from them yesterday as they were walking past Alola village and all were doing just fine. At that stage they were heading for Eora Creek where they planned on spending last night. Once they reach Kagi we should start getting regular updates. Both groups should cross by each other sometime tomorrow. No doubt there will be a lot of excitement when they catch up with each other.

MemberUpdate 1st July: Kingsley radioed in to say his three trekkers had reached Efogi and today were heading for 1900. He passed Harold and the other group of trekkers between Kagi and Efogi heading in the opposite direction.
All trekkers are doing just fine.

MemberUpdate Tuesday afternoon: Kingsley radioed in to say trekkers are at Deneki and will arrive in Kokoda this afternoon where they will overnight at Russell Eroro's family block. Tomorrow they will fly back into town on Airlines of PNG RTP service and should arrive around 4:30pm.
No doubt, they will have their wash in the creek not far away from where they will sleep, refer pic below:

Erika – I love you
Rachel – Are you having a great walk?
As for the Film Festival, David, Jason won the competition and it was a great day. Tahlia and Dylan have loved the time with their cousins and spent every waking minute outside.
Counting down the days till our Daddies are home.

MemberIf trekkers are back at their motel thursday afternoon, that means there is plenty of time for them (esp Graham and David!) to wash their muddy things before they get their flights home! Well, that is what the two Helens thought!
Happy holidays! Missing you both, see you soon…
