Boss Meri
MemberOn the 15th April we met up with trekkers from trek 378 & 379 who both headed out yesterday in two different directions commencing on the same day. Everything did not go as planned for David Currie and his wife Kerry when their bags did not turn up in Port Moresby including their boots packed inside a spare bag that was going to be left at the hotel for when they returned off the track.
As a result David stayed back in Port Moresby to wait on their bags and Kerry flew out with her fried Ekaterini along with a pair of my boots as it turned out we were the same size.
On arrival in Kokoda yesterday they were met by their guide Wallace Lemeki and their porters who will be accompanying them on the track. They were then taken to our camp in Kokoda where they were to overnight.
Trekkers included:
David Currie (ex trekker – walked April'07); Kerry Bailey; Ekaterini Papadimos; Brett Merrey; Jackson Merrey; Taylor Hayward; John & Bethany Brett; Justin Keast; Peter Glenn Brown; Peter Ronald Brown; Glen Payne; Garry Murray; Henry Quilty; Gary Wright; Kym Seidel; Ian Iedema & Robert Sharp
Part of the group that flew over yesterday with Tropic Air:

MemberAfter they departed Port Moresby due to weather, they landed in Popondetta and waited on the ground until it cleared enough for them to fly into Kokoda.

MemberLater in the day they were driven out to Iora Village where they were given refreshments and although I have not had confirmation, assume a swim in the creek.
The family of Tomsteen one of our porters were eagerly waiting to meet our trekkers as this is a first into their village and they are really happy according to one of our porters who arrived in to head out today from Owers' Corner.

MemberUpdate 17th April: Have just heard from Kokoda that trekkers left our base in Kokoda this morning around 7:30am and will spend tonight at Isurava Village Campsite.
David was also picked up this morning at 7am and taken to Tropic Air where he will try and board a flight to Kokoda. One of our guides Rod Ori is presently waiting with him and some porters are also on standby at Kokoda airport to walk with him up to Isurava Village as they play catch up.
Our base in Kokoda where they spent last night. This base will also welcome any other trekkers who would like to pay and stay there. Its handy to the airport and can accommodate up to 100 + trekkers in both traditional accommodation and tent area. The last photograph is some outdoor showers presently being constructed as an alternative to the creek:

MemberUpdate 17th April: Wallace their guide radioed in mid afternoon to say they were all doing ok and were about to reach their destination of Isurava Village.
My apologies Anne as somehow we missed getting a pic as I asked everyone to stand next to the truck but was surprised tonight when I counted the number of people. I can only think they either did not want their pic taken or miss understood me and thought they would get a separate pic and then in the rush to send them off it was completely missed. I will try and make up for this at the end when they finish.
David Currie did manage to get on a flight to Kokoda and has no doubt made up ground and caught up with the group at Isurava Village.

MemberUpdate 18th April: Wallace radioed in to say trekkers were ok with only one struggling a little but felt confident he would get them home to Owers' Corner. At the time they were passing by Alola Village and were heading to Eora Creek to spend the night.
Last night they spent the night at Isurava Village as planned and early this morning set off for Isurava Monument area before moving onto Alola.
Plenty of trekkers currently on the trail of which most are heading towards Isurava for Anzac Day from Owers' Corner. Trekkers heading in the same direction as themselves from Kokoda to Owers' Corner will spend Anzac Day at Bomana on the outskirts of Port Moresby where there are some 3779 graves – refer photographs below taken today 18th April.

MemberUpdate 19th April:Have not heard from the track today but that is mainly due to the fact they are down low in the Templeton's area. Tomorrow they will walk into Efogi the half way point where they will pick up their half way food and head for home being Owers' Corner the pick up point this end of the trail.

MemberUpdate 20th April: Wallace called in to say they were on the way to Efogi where they would spend the night. All are continuing to do well and enjoying their trek. Tonight we will have another trek heading in the opposite direction also in Efogi so its party time as the two meet up with each other.
Today this trek would also have passed Ken Toombs trek 378 that overnighted last night at Efogi. No doubt there would have been some high fives with David and Ken when they passed each other on the track having walked in the same track this time last year. Ken having done two treks from Kokoda to Owers' Corner this year changed direction in 2008.
Wallace is going to radio in when they reach Efogi as I told him there was some messages waiting for trekkers in his group.
