MemberTrek 343 headed out from Owers' Corner this morning with Wallace Lemeki their guide. All porters and Wallace were looking forward to their trek and couldn't wait to get started this morning.
Wallace is such a wonderful guy that I am quite sure they will enjoy their time with him and our KTL boys.
Last night we met with our trekkers and told them they could sleep in a little as they had a 7am start.
Trekkers included:
Axel Pfuhl; Glen Josephson; Susan Fane; Craig Pearce and Matthew Pearce

MemberUpdate 29th August: We received a radio call from Wallace at Ioribaiwa Village yesterday. He said they were all doing well and were heading for Nauro. At that stage he was not sure where they would spend the night.

MemberUpdate 31st August/1st Sept: Wallace has been having problems with his radio and could only call in yesterday when he got to Efogi the half way point so my apologies for no updates.
Axel has been doing it tough but getting into camp each day and trying his best to reach Kokoda. Yesterday Matthew starting vomiting so he too is doing it tough.
In Efogi last night was a Doctor from another trek of ours heading in the opposite direction. Apparently it was suggested that they stop in Efogi for another day and night as a rest day to try and get his strength back to continue.
This morning Wallace phoned by sat phone to give us this message and to ask if it was ok to stay another day. As I always tell our trekkers, our treks are not set in concrete and can always be changed so naturally we agreed.

MemberEfogi is renowned by our trekkers as the best guesthouse on the track so staying there for two nights will give them a little luxury of mattresses/pillows and nice green grass.

MemberUpdate 2nd September: Wallace called in from Kagi Lookout this morning to say they were on the move towards Templeton 1 where they planned on staying the night.
He said Matthew was still very weak but determined to make it to Kokoda. The trek is now moving very slowly in order to try and get everyone to Kokoda. Wallace sounded so positive that he was going to get them all there. Axel is still putting one foot after another and may get in later than the others but we always tell our trekkers, its not a race. Better to be first into Kokoda than first into each village.

MemberUpdate 4th September: Have just received a sat phone call from our guide Wallace to say they spent the night at Isurava Village and are now about to move down into the township of Kokoda.
So EXCELLENT NEWS, all trekkers are going to make it to the finish point. Wallace was just so happy as I think he doubted a couple might make it earlier on in the trek with one guy vomiting and another one struggling.
Tomorrow they will fly back into Port Moresby somewhere between 9-10am depending on weather conditions.
