This morning our latest trekkers left Port Moresby for Owers' Corner around 7am after dropping into the Bomana War Cemetery before heading out of town. Kirsty Freeman a medical student from Canberra teamed up with a school teacher Stuart Baker to take on Kokoda.

After visiting Bomana they were driven out to Owers' Corner where they posed for the photograph below before heading down their first hill. It was'nt long when our guide Tarina was on the sat phone saying Stuart had asked for a porter. Our driver who had not long arrived back in town had to turn around and take a porter out to catch up with them. Good move though, if you are doing it really tough, hire one! as you will be glad you did.

Update Tuesday 26th June: Have contacted today by our guide Tarina by Sat phone and just now by two way radio. Stuart has called it a day and is turning back as he feels he cannot make it. He is ok just a little dehydrated and is going to spend the day resting at Ua'Ule Creek and walk out tomorrow. We will walk some guys in from this end to help him out. He will remain with his personal porter until they catch up with him and they will all walk back out together.

Kirsty has proceed on by herself with our guide Tarina, her personal porter and our food porters. They called in later today from Maguli Ridge heading for Nauro where they will spend the night.

Update 27th June: Tarina called in today from Menari Gap saying they were heading towards Efogi where they would spend the night. Trekker and porter are all ok.

with regards to Stuart, he worked his way back to Ua'Ule Creek and is there resting with his porter he has hired and will slowly walk out back out tomorrow to where he commenced his trek at Owers' Corner.

We have another trek heading out this afternoon from Owers' Corner and will be sending two of our guys out to help Stuart get back in ok.

Update 30th June: Sorry I have not been able to update as my internet has been playing up. My IT guru has assured me the problem is now fixed.

GOOD NEWS! Kirsty Freeman has made it all the way to Kokoda where where she walked out today with her guide and porters. She did really really well it seems according to the reports I have been hearing from Kokoda.

When I last spoke to our base in Kokoda she was on a visit to the Kokoda Hospital. Being a trainee nurse, she will no doubt enjoy seeing how their hospital runs in Kokoda.

Kirsty will travel back into Port Moresby on one of our two chartered flights tomorrow 1st July. If she gets on the first flight she should be back in her hotel around 9:30am.

Well done Kirsty from all of us here at Kokoda Trekking!

I just heard her guide informing Russell that the 'fit meri' was at the haus sik…translation, she is a fit woman and is visiting the hospital.
