MemberTrek Report by our guide Arnold Jinga:
Day 1:The group deaprted Owers' Corner and proceeded down to Goldie River. Michael found it difficult and requested for a porter. I had a boy who was walking home to Kokoda at the time when I recruited him as a porter for Michael. Kane his son had difficulty in breathing fro the start. When I interviewed Michael, told me that Kane was sick two weeks before taking the trek. Julia, Vincent and John arrived at 1500 hrs at the camp.
Day 2: The group moved at a steady pace except Kane's condition was going from bad to worse. Therefore I had to intercept and stop him from going any further. Loretta also joked with me, she if she could fly out from any places as she was struggling. I got her porter Wayne to help her out wherever she needed his help. I also gave her a few tips and she caught up very well.
Heavy rain fell on Ioribaiwa Range and soaked all our packs. Michael and Kane returned back to Owers' Corner with their porters.

MemberDay 3: The group departed Ofi Creek for Menari. Loretta asked again if she can fly out and I told her that I will decide later during the day. Upon arrival at Menari Village Loretta thanked me for the tips and she is now looking forward to finishing the trek, no matter what comes along. The group members were all exhausted so I've decided to spend the half day at Efogi.
We are progressing well at a steady pace. Nil injuries to trekkers and porters.
Day 4: Departed Menari for Efogi where we arrived at 11:30. We waited for Landy's family members so we could access the key to the storage room until 3:30pm. Nil problems/injuries to both trekkers and porters. Everyone looking forward to finishing their trek.
Day 5: The group departed Efogi for Templeton 1 via Kagi. The weather was dull which made it an easier trek for everyone to walk on without any difficulty.
Day 6: The group walked at a steady pace and arrived at Iora Creek around 10:30am where we stopped for a lunch break at the creek. At midday the group departed for Alola Village and we arrived around 2PM.
Day 7: The group moved at a slower pace from Alola towards our next destination of Hoi.
Day 8: We departed Hoi Village at 6:00am and walked into Kokoda. Everyone was feeling very well and looking forward to finishing their trek on a high note.

MemberTrekkers Comments:
1. Would like to have had more than one days advice that our family and freinds could look up our progress on the internet – suggest a few weeks.
Editors Note: If anyone visits our website they will see regular updates on the front page once treks are on the go. You can also register as a user and post messages. When possible I will read out your messages to trekkers as their guide radios in from the track.
2. Thanks for laoning me the tent – it was really helpful not having to bring one from South Africa. A great trip with fantastic staff. They were all supportive, helpful and had infinite patience. Would like to have had a clearer briefing ont he internet before the trip especially with regard to gear/clothing etc. The fact that porter's gear has to fit into your own gear etc. Thanks for a great experience!
Editors Note: There is mention on our internet that you need to allow a little space for your porter to put some clothing he may have to keep it dry. Other items he may tie outside your pack but space should be left otherwise he will end up with no dry clothing shoud it rain.
3. It was the adventure of a lifetime!!!! It was physically and mentally tough but the wonderful support of Arnold andWayne ensured that I completed it. All the guys especially Arnold and Wayne were true gentlemen. Arnold was an excellent tour leader – a very pleasant manner and a good organiser. They understood I had issues with crossing rivers and downhills and were always there to assist me. The only suggestion is mabe to have an alternative to the Tuna and Museli as it gets a bit monetonous. I am so happy that I can say I walked the Kokoda Track!
4. It would be great if there could be an option presented to people joining a trek, that would give permission to release their email addresses to other trekking members. This would allow trekkers to contact their group members and if they live in the same area, they may be able to arrange to train for the trip together. It would also allow some members to bond a little before trip and members could confer on group supplies and combine efforts.
Editors Note: If anyone is reading this and would like me to give out your email address to others in your group, please send me an email stating this and I will release to other trekkers in your group.
