One lone trekker Russell Evans headed out today from Owers' Corner. As he is on a 6 day trek and one group already on the track 342 is doing an 8 day trek, they are expected to join up more than likely by the time they reach Isurava. We have planned that they all walk out together into Kokoda and share the one sing sing group on arrival.

Russell's guide is Arnold Jinga and today he passed his brother Ernst Jinga who comes off the track at Owers' Corner tomorrow morning at 8am. No doubt there were a few high five's when they all met and a few jokes and stories told before each group moved on. Both Arnold and Ernst grew up with Soc Kienzle (son of Bert Kienzle) who organised the fuzzy wuzzy angels during WW2.

Photograph: Russell at Owers' Corner approximately 9am this morning just before he headed down his first hill – does he look ready for the experience of a lifetime? we think so.

Update 21st August: Our guide called in today and said they had reached the 5 star hotel which is an inhouse joke as we automatically know its our Efogi guesthouse!

Apparently Russell is doing really well and so far no problems whatsoever it seems.

After spending the night at Efogi and the re-stocking of food, they will take off tomorrow morning to Kagi and then down to 1900 where they will spend the night.

Later today they ended up around the Deneki area where they plan to spend the night.

Tomorrow they will be out in Kokoda as they are almost there. No doubt he is getting pretty excited by now knowing he is almost finished.

The plan is for him tomorrow to catch up with our group of 10 who left a couple of days ahead of them and who are spending the night at Hoi Village.

Update 25th August: Firstly my apologies due to our race for not updating sooner but its been REALLY HECTIC around here the past couple of days.

Trekkers walked out into Kokoda yesterday morning and overnighted as planned at Russell Eroro's family block in Kokoda.

This morning they would have been at the start of our Kokoda Challenge Race in Kokoda which commenced at 7 am this morning.

About five minutes ago I arrived back in Port Moresby after getting the race away at this end of the track at Owers' Corner. On arrival I phoned the airline and they have our charter down for a midday departure. If all goes to plan they should be back in Port Moresby around 2pm.
