Trek 113
A group of 9 medical staff from Alfred Hospital Melbourne, headed out to walk the Kokoda trail just yesterday morning. The team is raising money to purchase equipment to protect and provide better care for the elderly, and is asking for your support and encouragement, while they are out on the trail.
The group made a stop at Bomana War Cemetery, where they took some time to have a look around and take pictures of the place. Awhile later they headed up to Owers Corner, along with their personal-porters, food-porters and their guide, Salvador. I didn?t get a radio call from the group yesterday; probably it was because of the reception, but I?m sure I will get a call today.
Editors Note:
A surprise for me yesterday…whilst I was driving trekkers out to the starting point at Ower's Corner, I was asked the question….do you know of a Doctor Roz Terry who used to be in Lae. I replied, yes she delivered two of my children, one in 1979 & the other in 1980…..small small world….haha
So if Roz you are logging on and following their progress, 25 years ago on the 8th July, you delivered a baby daughter who I called Mikayla. Mikayla is now one of my two daughters who prepares our 24 hour ration packs. One of the trekkers couldnt believe she had lunch with you only last week and now she was meeting someone who knew you.
Trekkers are made up of:
Bernie Donnellon (trek leader who kicked off this trek – & a proud farmers daughter); Katherine Collins; Belinda Free; Dr. Jake Shortt (a Kiwi trekker currently working in Australia); Robert Lackey; Declan Kissane; Michelle Izard; Rachael Nevill & Graham Bushnell
This group are walking to help purchase equipment to protect and provide better care for the elderly at the Alfred Hospital.

Trek 113
Happy and all well, the trekkers and porters are now up at Menari look-out point. So far, all trekkers have done really well, no ones having problems or facing difficulties, they all seem to be having fun and enjoying the trek and aslo each others company. At this time they are resting at the look-out point and also discussing what game to play when they reach their campsite, Menari village. I?m sure they will play volleyball and other fun games with the Menari kids and porters, so should be fun.
I read out all the messages to the trekkers, they were very much happy and excited to hear from you all and said they thank you. Probably when they get to the campsite, Bernie will send or pass on some messages. Other than that, everything?s ok, so is everyone.
More to follow, later on.
Seen here in the picture, is the group guide Salvador, relaxing after a long walk.

Trek 113
Ok I just got a call from the group guide Salvador who informed me that all trekkers and porters are now in Menari village. They are relaxing and waiting for the sun to go down before they head infield, I mean the center of the village to play some games. All trekkers are well still happy and very much enjoying the trek and their porters and guides company.This message was sent in by Bernie;
?We are all doing very well and are happy. We thank you all for your messages of support and encouragement, especially from Ash to Rachel. A kiss to dad from me and a big kiss from Robert to Carmel.?
Seen here are some trekkers waiting and relaxing, while others play along with kids from Menari village.

Trek 113
All trekkers seem happy and well, so are all the porter, still having a great time and loving the trek. They are now having a break up at Brigade Hill, and soon will proceed down to Efogi 1 where they will camp for the night.None of the trekkers are struggling or facing problems, they are all still looking fit and going strong and doing really well each day.
The weather looks good on their side, so hopefully will last the day, till they get to their campsite.
They were all eager to know if there were any messages sent into today for them, and when I said there was, they were all very happy and excited and ready to hear what you guys had written to them.
They were very much pleased to hear from you all again, I heard them laughing and giggling in the back round, when I talked to their guide. I?m sure they will send in their messages to you all when they get to the campsite, so keep an eye out for it. All your messages means a lot to them, so please feel free to write in any time of the day, I?ll be more then happy to pass it on
