Trek 109 Update:This morning around 8:30am 13 trekkers booked in for the flight to Kokoda and finally got away around 11am.

They all looked excited as they checked in at Airlines of PNG's counter at the domestic airport before heading into the boarding lounge.

2 gynecologists, 1 female, father & son combination, a group of three mates and other friends whose names are made up as follows:

Dr David Rosen; Dr James Opperman & his brother Mark Opperman; their mate Greg O'Shea; two friends trekking together, Graham Hunt & Ryan Docherty, a lone trekker, Nicole Williamson; a father & son combination, Rodney & Nathan Price and their friend Gregory Zillman; and three mates from Sydney, Steve Brown, Llewyn Gow & Michael Crawford. The later three were supposed to come and trek during our Anzac treks but luck was not on their side and Llewyn got injured and they all deferred to this date in October. Steve's sister Lora trekked however and no doubt told Steve everything there is to know about the trail….

Update 18th October, 2005: Spoke to their guide John Derick Eroro this morning by two way radio and they were all at the Isurava Battlesite. He said they spent last night at Isurava Village and moved out first thing this morning for a couple of hours walk to reach the Isurava Monument area.

Some of the trekkers seen here on the hill over looking the Royal Papua Yacht Club, Saturday 15th October, 2005:

John said trekkers were asking if there were any messages posted for them…..so come on family and friends, register and post something so next time they ask we can pass on your regards!!!

I asked where they were planning to spend tonight and he replied, Eora Creek. He said the trekkers were all quite fit. One guy asked for a porter but apart from that everything was going ahead as per plan.

    Hi Graham and Ryan
Great to see you both looking so well and happy and that you have arrived in PNG in one piece. Also good to hear that things are going well in the early stages of your trek. Looks like you have got a great group. photo of you with oceanin the background interesting – I had forgotten how dry Port Moresby can look.

Things are well here although a little bit hectic. Tasma has a cold and will stay home tomorrow with Pip. all Pip's plans are nearly complete for her big trip. Berwcks back OK and happy with house.

I am hosting a few drinks on Thursday night to farewell Pip and then early to Brisbane and back again on Friday. Pip flying out to Sydney from Canberra 650am. Seems I am always at the airport these days!

Have fun and keep putting up those photos.
    Love Sue, Tasma and PIp

Hi everyone, gee thanks, once they come on again on the radio we will have heaps of messages to read out to them.

At the moment they are in a low part of the trail where quite often when its raining it hard to hear so assume that is why we did not get a radio call today.

As soon as we have an update from John their guide we will post a message so stay tuned!

Spoke with their guide a short time ago from Kagi. He said trekkers were all doing fine and they were heading for Efogi where they would spend the night.

He said when they get there he will call up and have their messages read out to them as he stayed behind and the others had gone ahead hence not possible at Kagi.

    Update 21st October, 2005;

    Trek 109

The group arrived safely at Efogi 1 village yesterday evening and this morning headed out as early as 7am. They will head on up to Brigade Hill to be followed by Menari where they will have lunch and proceed on to New Nauro; there they will camp for the night.

All trekkers are ok, have done really well these past few days and still doing well. No injuries or problems, all are walking well and getting to their designated campsites on time.

They gave us a call late yesterday evening, but due to our absents back in the office, we were not able to get their call or pass on any messages. However, they have informed us that, when they get to Nauro they will try to give us a call and this time we?ll be around to get their calls.

Until then, more of their updates will be posted up later on today, so keep an eye out for that.

Before the group gets up to Brigade Hill, they will first reach Efogi 1 look-out point, where they will have the whole view of Efogi village.

Hi everyone, we spoke to our assistant guide today and trekkers were heading for Naoro and on target to get out on Sunday. We asked to speak to the trekkers but were informed they had gone ahead as they had a big day today.

He assured me that everyone was doing really well and enjoying their trek.
