I had the pleasure of meeting these three men in Brisbane yesterday when they flew up on Virgin in readiness for the commencement of their walk today. Last night they went out on the town to the Yacht Club to watch some footy and for a meal and no doubt a drink before setting out on the track. This morning saw them up bright and early to book in at 6am for their flight to Popondetta. Later this morning they arrived in Kokoda and met up with their guide Kingsley Boropi and tonight finds them at Isurava. Message just in that they are ok and did well today. Trekkers in this group include :

      [*]Damien Brown
      [*]Jason Blundell
      [*]Stephen McGovern

This trek has now reached the foot of Mt Bellamy. One of the trekkers asked if they could walk off the track a day early should they continue to make good time. There was a hickup yesterday however, when our guide accidentally set off the SOS alert button on the GPS they are carrying. Someone from America phoned to inform us of an emergency. False alarm, as they were just setting out from Kokoda. Luckily, we were able to inform them of the problem and Damien and the guys managed to turn it off. In Brisbane Damien informed me that communications was his line of work so lucky for us, they were able to stop the signal.

This trek have now reached Ua'Ule Creek. Tomorrow they will walk off the track around midday at Owers' Corner. I spoke to Kingsley tonight and he said they are all good and looking forward to tomorrow.

This group walked off the track around midday today and the last I heard were at Sogeri Lodge sharing a few beers celebrating their successful trek. A super effort, well done given the time you gave yourselves.
