Trek 1025 got away to an early start on the morning of the 23rd June when they were collected from their accommodation and driven out to Bomana War Cemetery. After having a good look around and paying their respects, the group headed off to Owers' Corner. The group commenced their walk around 9am. Trekkers in this group include :

      [*]Celesty Probst
      [*]Gary Blunt
      [*]Pieter Van Vuren
      [*]John O'Brien
      [*]Bernard Murphy

On the way up to Owers' Corner the group stopped at McDonald's Corner and took the opportunity for a group photograph.

The first night on the track they reached Ua'Ule Creek. Last night was spent at Naoro and today a short day down to Menari. Everyone is doing just great.

This group have now reached Naduri Village. Gary felt a bit sick this today so a decision was made not to go up through Kagi but to head to Naduri instead. According to Trevor they are ok and looking forward to heading to Templeton's Crossing tomorrow.

I received a text message from our guide as follows: Boss Meri (pidgin english for woman), we are camping @ Templeton's as planned yesterday. All trekkers and porters are doing fine. Tomorrow we head to Isurava Village for the night. After Isurava we originally planned on staying at Hoi but trekkers have been invited to stay in Kokoda at the boys invitation as they offered to prepare a mumu for them at Saga Village. Cheers, Trevor. unquote. So there you go, everyone is fine today and powering along.

Congratulation to trekkers who walked off the track today in Kokoda, 1 day ahead of schedule. Well done everyone! Panic stations however as phone calls started at 9pm last night and many text messages and calls today. Seems the rainfall caused a landslide at Alola/Isurava Memorial area as well as washing out the road as the water raged down Kokoda way. A company who has the palm oil contract moved their heavy machinery in today and and repaired the road. So all now good, trekkers can be moved as planned down towards Popondetta. Tomorrow night they will be at Orohaven Pija and on the 1st July they fly back to Port Moresby. Well done to trekkers and to Mamba for repairing the road so quickly.

On behalf of Kokoda Trekking, thank you for choosing to walk with us.
