    Hi

Have checked through a couple of insurance booklets that I picked up, an awful lot of small print, neither mention evacuation of if they do it is hidden away amongst the small print.

Would like to hear from others that have used Travel Insurance that includes evacuation.

    Any advice or suggestions appreciated

    Hi again

Was hoping to have heard by now from an Ex Trekker as to what suitable insurance company they may have used one that does cover evacuation the couple I checked out did not appear to have an evacuation clause although it well may have been in the small print.

Being 70 when I walk and whilst a fit 70 at my age whilst I do not expect it to be the case anything can happen for that matter to any of us at any time.

What Insurance Company have you found that would be suitable?

I have taken insurance with Columbus Direct. A friend who took sick in Ireland and spent 49 days in a Dublin hospital was paid up no problems by this company, who are underwritten by Lloyds of London.

The fine print takes a bit to wade through, but I believe I am covered if they have to airlift me out. You can read it all for yourself online in any case at
    http://www.columbusdirect.com.au/

They are half the price of other insurers.

Be a little carefull here. Airlifting a traveller out of Ireland maybe regarded by all insurance companies a little differently than the nature of "adventure" travel on the Kokoda Track.Best to put the situation direct to whoever you decide to go with. I was covered by Toursafe Travel Insurance in August last. My query to them on the subject at that time was in the negative, subject to the exact circumstances of the evacuation event, e.g. exhaustion alone was not regarded as an insurable event
In any dealings with Insurance Companies you need to be very specific on your needs

Geoff got me a bit worried, so I have phoned Columbus Direct and spoken with Andrew, who was very helpful. I explained to him exactly what we would be doing and where. He assures me that if we have an "unforseen" occurance (such as exhaustion, dehydration, injury) we are covered for airlifting out.

I also asked if it was necessary to pay the extra Action/Adventure cover, but he assures me we are covered by the basic insurance so long as we go with an organised (approved) tour group, the destination is not on the "warning" list, and we are not doing rockclimbing or anything of that sort involving ropes.

They are certainly a cost-effective company. It is not costing me much more for two people to spend two weeks in PNG than it is with another company for one person spending one week in New Zealand. Wish I'd known about them when I booked the NZ trek.

Unfortunately Columbus Direct no good for me as they do not insure those over 65 years old.
Looks like I have found, yet a couple of others that do, but yet to check them out as to what they cover, both do not appear too expensive.

    Hi everyone,

I did not wish to alarm, only to warn on the need to cross all "t's" and dot all " i's " when dealing with Insurance companies, particularly with travel insurance.
Certainly it would appear the age of the insured is an important factor when determining what risks each company will cover, as Brian and I have experienced.

My sister recently used a site called artog.com.au for her insurance to NZ where she was hiking.

It compared almost 20 insurers against each other then ranked them from cheapest to most expensive.

You'd be surprised how much you can save.

    Hi all,
I bought travel insurance from AXA. I found it's services are pretty good. It provides all standard covers, most important is medical expenses. Now I am enjoying my trip. biggrin.gif
