MemberWe said goodbye on Friday 1st April, to our red Toyota Hilux as it has been shipped to Oro Bay to our JV Partner Russell Eroro (Kokoda Trekking Ltd) to use primarily to run our own supplies around and for use with our own trekkers.
However, it is available For Hire to other trekking companies when not needed by ourselves and also to smaller groups of independent trekkers.
CAM 923 can be hired to drive down to Popondetta to collect trekkers and/or cargo for transportation up to Kokoda. Smaller groups can also hire it to travel down to Buna or Gona in the Popondetta region.

MemberTo contact this vehicle, it has the radio call sign, Romeo Charlie Echo (RCE) and will be located on Russell Eroro's Family Block in Kokoda.
To cater for the roads in that region, a guard has been placed on the window for protection against stones thrown up when passing the big palm oil trucks. A roof rack has also been added for back packs and two spot lights on the front for night driving.

MemberI too will miss our red toyota hilux as I drove this vehicle on many occasion running out to Sogeri & Ower's Corner. This photograph taken when we stopped at McDonald's Corner. On the back is Eric Uwea (Sogeri Guide) our Haus Boi of more than 10 years Kenny & Russell Eroro (veteran of 287 treks from Kokoda and my Partner):

MemberA battery also went down to Russell's block today to hopefully allow his Satelitte Telephone to be connected so that it will ring at his end. If this works satisfactorily, he can also be contact by Sat phone:

MemberDID YOU KNOW??? that you can also overnight at Russell Eroro's Family Block if you are passing through Kokoda no matter which trekking company you are with.
As an indendant trekker they will also welcome you to their block. You will be in good company as family members spoil you rotten.
Children of the block will entertain you with walking you to a river for a swim or sometimes they will group together and sing to you.
John Derrick Eroro will talk to you re his experiences of walking the infamous Kokoda Trail with over 300 treks to his credit spanning 12 + years.
Russell Eroro has almost caught up with 287 treks.
Brothers Davidson, Ross, Johnsford, David, nephews Paolo and Christopher are also on hand to talk to trekkers and to attend to any other needs should they arise. Russell's wife's brother Brendan also lives on the block and walks with Kokoda Trekking.
Russell's mother and father live on the same family block. Russell's father was alive during the war and whilst he does not like talking about it, can remember in detail his life during World War II.
Cost per trekker per night: K20.00 per person
Like myself when I visited the block earlier last year, you will be welcomed with the chanting of ORO ORO ORO
This is the way visitors, strangers and friends alike, are greeted and welcomed in Kokoda. Its the royal red carpet welcome in these parts. The word 'Oro' literally means 'WELCOME', which makes it the welcome province of PNG.

MemberAnother alternative is to fly into Popondetta or Kokoda and have our vehicle pick you up and transport you to Tony Evari's guesthouse right on a river approximately 45 minutes from Kokoda heading towards Popondetta.
