One of our Kokoda Guides, Tony Evari has gone to the trouble of building a guesthouse next to a river on his block and has asked me to help publicise this for him as he has no other way of letting anyone know it is available. Here in PNG they are commonly referred to as a'win' haus.

Tony's father is in charge of the Kokoda Police Station. I am not too sure how to find the guesthouse location but a radio call to KTL 1 or Kokoda Police Station is all you will have to do to obtain a booking and/or further information.

A couple of weeks back the boys of Kokoda borrowed my digital camera so photographs could be taken of the opening of this guesthouse.

We are so proud of Tony for coming up with this initiative. If time permits we will take our own trekkers who stay at Rusty Eroro's family block for a drive down there for a swim.

Waterfall seen here in this photograph near Tony's Guesthouse. Tony assures me it is a very deep swimming hole:

Editors Note: Since we started employing men from Kokoda, we have encouraged them to spend their earnings wisely.

Russell Eroro now has his own backpacks and camping equipment. He also has his prized KTL1 a Mitsubishi Canter which was purchased as a community service to the people of Kokoda as well as hoping he could earn a living from it to pay off the truck.

He now has KTL2, a Toyota 3 Tonne Dyna Truck which was purchased this year in March, 2005 to ferry trekkers from this end of the trail at Ower's Corner back and forth from Port Moresby. At the present time it is still in the workshop having seats and other necessary items added to it but will be in use for our April treks.

A lot of Russell's (Rusty's) staff have started chicken projects. A few are now providing much needed canteen's in their areas.

    Tony has built this guesthouse.

It is you our trekkers that we owe gratitude to, who through trekking has allowed these guys to put their earnings towards something for their future and that of their families.

Last year the District Administrator of Kokoda told Rusty that he has managed to keep so many young guys out of the court system because we have given them hope and a future.

To all past and future trekkers, we sincerely thank you.
