The Brisbane Lions headed out to Kokoda this morning by chartered aircraft. I wasnt over there but I am sure they were welcomed by footy fans from all over the province.

Every step of the arduous Kokoda Trail completed by the AAPT Brisbane Lions will add up to dollars for the Brisbane Royal Children?s Hospital Foundation.

The Lions are preparing to walk the mountainous 96km trail in Papua New Guinea, made famous by Australian soldiers during World War II, as a team bonding exercise, raising funds for the hospital?s 'burns unit' along the way.

The Royal Children?s Hospital Foundation has set up a website at http://www.workingwonders.com.au/kokoda or link from http://www.lions.com.au where footy fans and philanthropists alike can sponsor each of the 34 Lions players and six officials undertaking the trek.

Why not log on and sponsor one of the Brisbane Lions as they TACKLE KOKODA in 5 days!

At a time when most Australians will be relaxing into the party season they will be braving the elements, surviving in monsoonal conditions with ration packs for food and sleeping in tents for the 96 kilometre ordeal.

The trail which saw one of the bloodiest campaigns of World War II and forever sealed the relationship between Australia and Papua New Guinea.

The Royal Children?s Hospital Foundation is the charity attached to Brisbane?s RCH, which treats more than 100,000 children from around Australia and beyond each year. The RCHF receives no Government funding and is dependent on community support.

Footnote: This trek unfortunately is not one of ours as we would have loved to have taken these footy guys on the trail. It is however a trek organised by Executive Excellence with Tropic Tours staff as the porters on this trek.

We at Kokoda Trekking wish them a great trek and I am sure the KTL boys will be following their trek with interest as they listen into radio broadcasts during the next few days.

    GO THE LIONS !

Overheard by two way radio tonight that the Lions have reached Menari where they will overnight.

Tomorrow night they will camp at Ofi Creek and it then full speed for Ower's Corner and I would imagine a few well earned beers!

As you can see on the map, they have passed the half way mark!

    GO THE LIONS!

Update 3rd December: overheard a two way radio conversation….the Lions have now reached Ower's Corner – the pick up area this end of the Kokoda Trail. Tropic Tours buses were there to pick them up and one would assume they will be back in their hotel in Port Moresby by mid-late afternoon.

WELL DONE FROM ALL OF US HERE AT KOKODA TREKKING
