MemberI have read more than once that a Wedge tent is preferable over a Dome tent.
What is the reasoning behind this?I will be looking to get myself a one man tent in fairly soon and any info on the pros and cons (and brands) of each would be appreciated.
Thanks again

MemberHi Mick,
I am not an expert however I believe dome tents, due to height, are less stable in windy conditions which is generally, from my experience in August last, not a problem on the Kokoda Track.
Wedge style tents generally have a better and handy vestible which is usefull in wet weather when you are getting in and out of tent.
If you are wishing to do further hiking I would recommend looking at the better quality end. Salespeople at quality hiking stores such as Kathmandu and Paddy Pallin are best able to advise you.
If your Kokoda Trek is to be a "one off" then a brand new "OZ Trail" dome tent (Around $50)from Annaconda will get you through. Our Tour company provided these tents for our trek. Generally they were in very poor condition after considerable use. Many of our group were forced to decamp into track guest houses to avoid the heavy rain penetrating the tents trough the roof, sides and floor.Hope this info is helpful.

MemberHi Mick
Although I am yet to test it out I was recomended by a chap who had previously used one that I purchase a Black Wolf Mantis 11 tent whilst not the lightest it most certainly is not the heaviest of tents, 2.8kilos if I recall.
I purchased mine at Anoconda during thier Christmas sale and I feel got it for a reasonable price whilst I could have saved a few dollars buying it on the net I like to have some one I can chat to or take a item back to if there is a fault.
I am sure that any worth while camping or hiking shop will have Black Wolf gear Paddy Pallins or Anoconda to name a couple.
Have a look at:- http://www.blackwolf.com.au/adventure1000078/mantis-ii/
I have my 70th in September and I will be walking on then track to celebrate it just cannot wait for it to come around.
Best of luck on your trek enjoy every moment of it.
