MemberDoing some of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walks as part of my preparation.
I understand the majority of these trails follows streams/creeks. Just wondering whether this water is ok for drinking and whether water purification tablets are recommended?
Thanks

MemberI'd email National Parks or the local council to find out for sure.
But if theres no built up area or industrial sites about it should be ok.
But bomb it with puritabs anyway as you can never be too sure.
How long before you leave on your trip ?12/01/2010 at 1:32 am #103851Brian
MemberHi Arod
I have done a couple of good walks in your area that would be excellent training for Kokoda I did these with Ex Kokoda Trekkers that live on the Sunshine Coast both from time to time appear on this forum.
I will send one, Alf, an email if he is home asking him look here and give you some advice on walks in your area.
I also suggest that you look at the National Parks Association Qld web site http://www.npaq.org.au you may find information there. NPAQ do have walks, Day and Over night, many weekends, particularly when it gets cooler, although many of their walks are in Lamington National Park and areas west of Brisbane.
I am leading a few walks/outings myself this year although I have had to cancel a few as we are going around Australia for a 5-6 month trip mid year which is the cooler part when most walks take place. One walk I am leading is up your way a three day one through the Cooloola Wilderness Trail which by Kokoda standards is a breeze very easy like a walk in the park.
Find the hardest, roughest track you can find that is the one to train on and if it is wet and slippery all the better.
If looking looking at the NPAQ site scroll down to the Events Calender to see the walks and outings etc, not sure if there are any in your area. If you know a member walking on them you can go as a guest although of course we would sure like you to join as a member.

MemberHi Arod
I live ar Beerwah and did quite a lot of my training in that area. plus the walk from Baroon Pocket Dam to Kondalilla Falls. 20km return.
I found Mt Beerburrum a good stamina builder. If you need any info on the track itself send me an e-mail.
Good luck
Alf
