Excited but Nervous
MemberHi All,
Another quick question. Do I need 1 or 2 lots of skins ? Do they dry quick enough to only have the 1 pair for the whole trek…or should I have two for one pair on and one pair drying out – as I assume these are washed with everything else each night ?
Thanks

MemberI took 1 pair of skins, they dry pretty fast, but even if they are a little wet, and it's a good wake up call high up to put on damp clothes, anyway, within 5 mins of walking, you won't feel it..

MemberHi Excited & Nervous
Whilst not taking skins with me, it didn't matter what underwear you took, most of the time it wasn't completely dry, but as Nettie says, 5 mins into the walk (even at 7am) you were damp anyway, so it didn't really matter. A bit of vaseline (or similar) kept you out of trouble and it was a must for your toes and heels as well, my feet were as good on day9 as when I left Moresby. 2 pairs of sports socks helped me as well. They weren't quite White when I tried to wash them in Moresby, but what the hec.

Memberi think skins are good, but unless you plan on using them alot afterwards, the $75 cost is hardly worth it when there are alternatives for 1/2 the prices. I took 1 pair with me but never wore them, better used for sport later then trashed on kokoda. stuck to the $30 – $40 option and even then. 1 pair walking the track and 1 pair if at all every night.

MemberI borrowed a pair of my son's skins and wore them for the first 5 or 6 days, not really sure if they helped or not. For the last couple of days I went without…. and it was definitely more comfortable with them on. Whilst always wet when I got back into them in the mornings it didn't matter, you get used to it.
