    1942:

    • January 3 – Rabaul bombed for the first time
    • Japanese land at Rabaul
    • February 3 – Port Moresby bombed
    • Gebruary 10 – Japanese land at Gasmata
    • March 9 – Japanese land at Salamaua, Lae
    • March 26 – Japanese radio announces "fall" of Port Moresby
    • July 22 – Japanese land at Buna-Gona
    • August 3 – Japanese capture Kokoda
    • August 27 – Japanese land at Milne Bay
    • August 31 – Japanese evacuate Milne Bay
    • September 15 – Japanese halted at Ioribaiwa
    • September 29 – Australians begin counter-attack
    • October 25 – Port Moresby bombed for 85th time
    • November 2 – Australians recapture Kokoda
    • November 8 – Announed American troops flown by air and were taking part in the Papuan action
    • Announced General MacArthur, General Blamey, Lieut. General Kenny were directing campaign from field.
    • December 9 – The Australians occupy Gona
    • December 15 – The Americans occupy Buna village
    • December 18 – Port Moresby bombed for 95th time
    • December 21 – General Horri killed in action
    • December 28 – Lockheed Lightnings in action. In first encounter they shot down 13 Zeros two dive bombers.

    1943

    • January 2 – Final beachhead at Buna falls
    • January 8 – General MacArthur announces 333 Japanese aircraft and more than 260 vessels destroyed since July 23.
    • January 22 – Sananada falls
    • January 23 – All organised enemy resistance over-come in Sananada area
    • January 24 – Liquidation of enemy complete in Sananada, with heavy losses to Japanese troops and material.
