Fluppy
MemberAre these worth buying and which brands should I keep an eye out for? I don't really want to just be sleeping on my sleeping bag in the tent – I might wake up with a very sore back and that's the last thing anyone needs…
I want things as compact as possible in/on my pack so as to 1) leave room for my porter and 2) because less is more if you know what I mean…
Thanks in advance for any advice/comments

Memberhi Fluppy, your trekking company should supply you with a thin foam rollup mat to use under your sleeping bag. As well I would really strongly recommend you purchase a lightweight thin self inflating mattress. A good brand is THERMAREST. Any good outdoors shop will stock them Rays/Bogong/Snowgum/Mountain designs etc should all stock thermarest. Iwould recommend the full length as opposed to the half or three Quarter size. Price will be in the region of $140 to $180 but should be able to do better . Look around the shops.
With your foam underlay and then your thermarest on top of it you will certainly have a good base for a good nights rest. Take a lightweight sleeping bag certainly not a four seasons/snow rating. Enjoy.
