    Hello!

I applied for the application trecking the Kokoda Trail and get an answer that I have to walk with an licensed guide:

Could you kindly advise which Tour Operator you are engaging for this walk?
As per our licensing agreement, you as a trekker have to engage a KTA
Licensed Tour Operator or use the services of a licensed tour operator's
    porter/guide

Is it possible to hire a local guide down in Popondetta or Kokoda? I already booked a flight to Popondetta on the 14th august in the morning and would like to start the Treck on 15th until 21st august from Kokoda to Owers Corner.
Can someone advise me a good guide, or is it possible to still walk without a guide? I can't imagine that they control wheather you go with a guide or not. Nevertheless the Kokoda Track Authority wants to know a name. =/
I don't need a porter and don't want to pay 3000dollars for a group walk.
I have an own tent and don't need guesthouses. Also I don't want to go in a group.

Would be happy to get some answers from you!!!

    Beste wishes from Germany!
    Joachim

With the new KTA (Kokoda Track Authority) licensing laws, you need to walk with a company who have been approved by them and given a trek license. In other words since 2010 no-one can purchase a trek permit to walk the track without first stating which Kokoda Track operator you are using.

In other words the guide has to be employed by a company such as ourselves who operate on the track. You could ask KTA to supply you with a list of companies and approach them for prices.
