Boss Meri
MemberA group of our trekkers this week had decided to finish off their night with their porters by inviting them to share dinner and drinks with them at the Royal Papua Yacht Club. Their request was put to the Yacht Club and later denied. As a result trek 417 ended up spending the night at the Gateway Hotel.
Brent St Hill (formerly the Manager of the Gateway Hotel) now the General Manager of RPYC informed me a decision had been made prior to his appointment that trekkers could make their way to the club but only '6' of their porters would be allowed in.
I put my case forward to Brent that coming off the track its hard for a group of trekkers to choose say '6' out of in this case '24' to accompany them when all porters work as a team to get trekkers home.
Its too late for Michael Barrand and his fellow trekkers and porters but good news tonight when I arrived back home from another two groups coming off the track today, to see an email waiting for me from Brent as follows:
Quote:
Hi Gail,
I have some good news (albeit late for Michael Barrand and his group) that I would like to advise you of.
I have been able to persuade the RPYC Commodore & Rear Commodore that RPYC can accept Kokoda Trekkers and their guides and porters into the club.
There will be a few rules that need to be followed and these rules extend to all guests of RPYC.
They are.
- All guests must follow the RPYC dress code and I have attached a letter that outlines these.
- All guests must be supervised at all times by a Senior person who will be in charge to ensure all standards of dress and behaviour are maintained.
- RPYC must be advised 24 hours priors to the groups arrival so as RPYC Security can be advised thus allowing guests access to RPYC facilities. Names of those coming to RPYC would be appreciated for these security purposes.
- RPYC will not be responsible for any transport either to or from RPYC and all guests, porters & guides should depart (where possible) at the same time.
- RPYC will provide laminated guest cards to be displayed by the porters and guides whilst at RPYC premises and returned on departure.
Please make all bookings with RPYC Functions Coordinator, Leonie Yaruso who is available on 321 1700 or
Email: functions@rpyc.com.pg
All in all I think this is a suitable outcome for all concerned and we look forward to welcoming trekkers, guides and porters alike to RPYC.
Hope the year has been good for you and the remainder the same.
Kind regards
Brent St. Hill
