Dear friends in Papua New Guinea,
This is just to let you know that I have now (after various boat-related delays) just arrived by cargo ship from the Southern Philippines, to Sulawesi, Indonesia. I will take a ferry to Jayapura (West Papua) tomorrow, so hope to bicycle into Vanimo around Christmas day, about a month later Port Moresby.
I will keep you posted of my progress.
Best wishes and I hope you have a Happy Christmas!

MemberTwo years of adventure: Cycling from North East Siberia back to England
(with a 20,000 km detour via Indonesia and Australia tagged on) and now the Kokoda Trail:After 2 years of waging unruly battle with delightful kids and stroppy adolescents as a geography teacher at a school in England, I realised that cycling 40,000 KM from Far Eastern Siberia to London sounded like an equally exhilarating challenge and would also be a great way to raise money for children at risk? Estimated to take over 30 months, I aim to travel 20,000 km from Northern Russia to Southern Australia, and then 20,000 km back to England, using only bicycle, and where necessary, boat. I began at the start of winter 2004 from the Gulag town of Magadan (Stalin?s ?gateway to hell?), cycled through 5000KM of tundra (camping in temperatures as low as minus 40) and then pedaled my way through Japan, across South Korea and on to China? after that it will be island hopping south through the Philippines and Indonesia and into the deserts and rainforests of Australia?
During the thousands of hours in the saddle, I am aiming to raise money for Viva Network (find out more by clicking here) in support of their outstanding work with children at risk around the world. I aim to promote the work of Viva Network through this website as well as radio and newspaper coverage of the journey. I hope you will enjoy reading about my adventures and the admirable efforts of Viva Network and be encouraged to support their efforts through the very easy tax-deductible online sponsorship system.
Please click on the links at the top of this page to contact him, view his travel reports, or to donate money to Viva Network. If you happen to live somewhere on his route and would like him to visit and give his slideshow presentation (especially schools, cycling/adventure clubs, churches, etc) ? please do get in touch or email: roblilwall@hotmail.com
The Route (subject to considerable change? depending on visas, boats, areas of unrest and so on)

MemberA few minutes ago another message from John Derick…the passengers on KTL1 are anxious to get going back home so John is staying behind to wait for Rob as he has not yet arrived in Popondetta.
One would assume at this stage that he has decided to ride his bicycle from Oro Bay to Popondetta. Stay tuned for further updates:
