Anthea
MemberHi all,
I'm booked in for the 492 ANZAC trek from 17-25 april this year. I fly in to POM, on the pm of 15th April and out on 26th April. I'm looking to see if there is anyone on the same trek or about the same time that is interested in sharing a hotel room with me in POM for any, or all of 15,16 and 25th april? I am yet to find accom but if you have booked accom and want someone to share with, or would like to share with me when I find somewhere, let me know!!
Other than that- i'm looking forward to meeting everyone on my trek (and those that arent) as well as doing this amazing trek!
Anthea.

MemberHi Anthea,
Myself and my brother are also booked onto the 492 trek in April and are staying in Port Moresby on the nights of the 16th and 25th of April.
We tried to get into the gateway but as I'm sure your aware its unfortunatly fully booked, our travel agents is recommending the Lamana hotel, but I was just wondering if you don't mind me asking how much is it costing you per night at the hideaway.
If its competitive we might book there as well.
Thanks

MemberHi Tegs, as the Hideway is not the same quality hotel as the Lamana it should be around the K120 mark or $60 per night. If all you are looking for is a place to sleep without all the bells and whistles, then its more than ok. It has a swimming pool/restaurant/bar but the rooms are not as modern.
I would rate them a 2 + star compared to the Lamana ****. The Lamana is on a par with the Gateway Hotel and the Holiday Inn but has no swimming pool.
Give the Hideaway a call of send them an email, details as follows:
Telephone: 0011 675 323 6888 or 0011 675 323 1999
Facsimile: 0011 675 325 5991
Email: hideaway@accommodationpng.com.pgAnother budget hotel on much the same scale is the Granville Hotel situated not far away from the Gateway Hotel. Once again basic with a bed, TV, shower but no telephone only prepaid – but ok for a night if you are not looking for luxury accommodation:
Telephone: 0011 675 325 7155
Facsimile: 0011 675 325 7672

MemberHi Gail,
Thanks so much for all of that information, I think we will just be looking for somewhere to sleep that is safe and not too far from the Gateway, I will definitely investigate the Granville as well.
All your help is greatly appreciated.
Regards

MemberHi Tegs,
Sorry for the late reply- I didnt realise there was responses to my post. Hideaway Hotel quoted me K285/night. which seems a bit more that the $$ Gail indicated but is about 1/2 to 1/3 the price of everywhere else I inquired.
Look forward to meeting you in a couple of months! (Are you in syd?? and interested in going for some walks? I'm also organising a weekend trip to do 6 Ft track in mid march… let me know if you'd be interested in coming)

MemberHi Anthea,
We have booked the Hideaway for the nights of the 16th and the 25th, so it looks like we will se you there, we are arriving about 2pm on the 16th so we will have to organise to catch up at some stage. We paid around what you paid as well and like you we found it was half the price of everywhere else.
Unfortunately we are in Melbourne, otherwise I would be up for a walk, keen to train as much as I can at the moment. Nervous about being fit enough but still a little while to go!
Look forward to meeting you,
Tegs

MemberOh Cool! Definately would love to catch up in POM. My boss is being a bit precious about me travelling alone so he'll be glad to know i'll be meeting others at the same hotel. 🙂 So, Cocktails by the pool in the arvo of 16th? ha ha.
I must say I'm starting to feel nervous about being fit enough. I have enlisted the help of a trainer who runs progams designed for adventure fitness to help me get ship shape. That and lots of stairs at work!Where in MEL are you? I am down there semi-frequently (significant other lives in Sth melb). I'll be down next on the last weekend of feb if your interested in going for a walk or run or something? anyway- my email is in previous post- feel free to drop a line 🙂
Looking forward to meeting you!
