MemberHey guys, just looking around and can't seem to work out something. When we get to Port Moresby the day before (and the day after) the trek, we will obviously need a room to crash in at one of the hotels in the area which is fine.
But what do we do with the extra gear that isn't coming with us on trek like passports etc? Do we need to hire out a room for the entire time that we're away? Can we leave valuables somewhere else that is safe?
I guess I'm feeling a little lost with all of this right now… LOL
Any help appreciated,
Mark

MemberWe stayed at the Gateway , it has places to leave your gear which are secure.Im sure all of the hotels are set up in the same way as most of their guests would be trekkers.

I can only comment about the Gateway hotel but there are several others that trekking companies use. I would imagine that the pre and post trek accomodation should be booked by your trekking company as part of your package – if not I would start to be concerned. The Gateway is close to the airport so it is very convenient for catching flights. It is a clean comfortable hotel with good security. Has a nice restaurant/bar and a refreshing pool to relax by with a cold SP. It is expensive so you will probably end up sharing with someone else from your trekking group but that is all part of the bonding experience. It also helps to have someone else in your room to go over your gear as well the night beofre.
As for the lockers, passports etc – read the other link about "Gateway Hotel Lockers" – it has plenty of advice for you but it applies to the Gateway hotel only.

MemberHi
We stayed at the Gateway before and after out Trek and like others had no problem at all with security of our passports and tickets etc whilst we were away trekking like wise our luggage as well.
You will find plenty of posts on this forum regarding the gateway and other hotels as well. What ever do NOT expect to arrive in Moresby and find a vacant hotel either before or after your trek you MUST book well ahead particularly in the gateway as it is very often booked out months ahead.

MemberOur group stayed at the Ela Beach Hotel pre and post trek. I really liked this option, as opposed to the Gateway or other 'airport hotels', as we had the opportunity to travel through downtown Pt Moresby, past the harbour and yatch club ( some VERY fancy houses and boats here!!) and just generally have a bit more of a look at PT Moresby.
The Ela Beach hotel was recently refurbished, had a great pool, fantastic eateries, was across the road from the water…. and the service was next to none. We left our excess luggage in a locked store room and our passports, Aussie $$'s etc in the safe.
