Does anybody know of places to camp or stay along the road connecting Kokoda and Popondetta for trekkers.
Thanks, Stewart

MemberHi Stewart,
my porter when i trekked in 2006 was from the village of Awala, in fact he was the 'Lawyer' of his village, confirmed by a fellow porter who was also from that village. this village has a history during the war, including australias retaking of the area. he said that all australians would be welcome there. i haven't heard from him for a while, i would suggest the flood late last year may have been bad in that area. I have written to a post box in popendetta a few times and received replies from him.
how long before you go? a letter and reply may take a month to get back.17/06/2008 at 1:27 pm #99957Stewart
MemberHi jonnycash,
Thanks heaps for the info. Do you remember this mans name ? We leave in 6 weeks so maybe enough time for a letter or we might just do some sweet-talking. We wont be imposing, only need 10 square meters of grass to sleep on.
If you can put me in contact with this man that would be appreciated (we would obviously continue the respectful behaviour from the actual Kokoda track and do nothing to bring your name into disripute). Alawa looks to about 40km from Kokoda so that would be ideal.
Thanks again for the help, Stewart
