Fluppy
MemberI went there yesterday to do some training. Oh my golly gosh! I honestly am really having doubts about my fitness now. Maybe not so much my fitness, but my ability to cope with my asthma. I had to stop 3 times because I was literally out of breath.
Uphill all the way, scrambling over rocks, boulders, tree roots and mud (my boots have now officially passed the test).
'Twas amazing to see children. Children! Scale it like it was just new playground equipment – but then again, they were not carrying 7kg (I didn't want to damage my pack, so took the rest of the weights out), were not asthmatic and had loads of energy (I wonder if it's true that energy decreases with age – it's a conspiricy I tell you
)
Anyway, has anyone walked up Mt Ngungun before? I'd like to know if it comes anywhere minutely near replicating the track of Kokoda (minus the humidity – just the track itself) so I can either step-up the training or remind myself to bring a small tank of oxygen!
I know that my self-confidence is the biggest hurdle I will have to overcome, but this truly exemplified (to me) how unfit I am *cries*

MemberHi Fluppy
Dont panic you are going very well keep up with your training you sure appear to be doing all the right things.
If you are going with KTL you will not be pushed I was the last one into camp every day and my porter Brendan Buka, guide Wallace Lemeki and often porter Aaron Harope stayed with me all the way helping and encouraging whilst never pushing me. If I wanted a break I took a break I walked at my own pace.
No not worry yourself you are doing fine and the boys will look after you as if you were a member of thier family.
Keep up the training specially on the rougher and harder tracks.
Brian
PS: One thing if it rains tracks will be extremely slippery so if you can find some similar train on them as well. I used two walking poles and will certainly use them again next time I go.

Memberyou'll be hiking at a leisurely pace and not running a marathon, I would'nt worry too much.

MemberHi all,
There are many who have trekked Kokoda and who have contributed to this forum with a genuine account of their experience. I have not encounted any report embelished with "hype or B/S".
All who take the time to read this forum and have shared the experience will, I am sure, agree.Geoff Hardie

MemberI have not encountered any reports embellished with hype or b/s either,,I just said that when I contact fluppy I would not over exagerate how hard the walk is.
