    Hi Gail

I am seeking general information on the menu you provide on the trek (we are trekking 19 June – 27 June). My son Cameron is a type 1 diabetic. If I can obtain information about the type/quantity of food you provide during the course of a normal hiking day, I can calculate the food supplements I may need to carry to cater for his condition.

    Cheers

    Graeme

Hi Graeme, We purchase standard ration packs from:

    http://www.food4treks.com.au

If you need a sample sent to you, please contact Mikayla Rodger or Cheree Kearney on either of the following email addresses:

    Mikayla: james.mikayla@bigpond.com

    Cheree: kearney@austarnet.com.au

I notice you live in Brisbane. Mikayla and Cheree are based on the Gold Coast in the Oxenford area. If you were to contact them, they could do up a special pack for you and you could bring it up with you when you come. Just an idea coz we want to make sure he is ok and as we all have no experience whatsover with his condition, we can work as a team to make sure we get it right.

We want to bring sealed food bars with us as I suppose everyone does e.g. energy foods, snacks, apricots, raisins etc. Do you know of any problems bringing them through customs?

Lots of people bring all kinds of stuff up and I have not heard anyone complain that they have had it taken off them so if it happens to you, it will be a first.

You would have to delare it but the worst case scenario is they could reply you do not have a permit.

A permit costs K110.00 which is around $50 – we could arrange this for you if you wish to go this path and give me a details listing at least 3 weeks before you come up here.
