MemberNever a year goes by that I do not think of Wallace Lemeki. Wallace grew up in the Milne Bay Province and was later adopted by the Lemeki family from Saga Village, Kokoda. If he was still alive, 100% he would be leading one of our Anzac treks. Wally, you died way too young. You were in inspiration to other guides and porters and a loyal hard working employee. I once asked Wallace how trekking had changed his life.
His reply was to picture a ladder. He said before trekking he was on the bottom, he worked hard and got almost to the top. RIP Wallace – your wantoks are doing you and us proud. Much like Angela if you have been following the story about Ivan, a guy by the name of Brian Beamish wanted to walk the Kokoda Trail in celebration of his 70th birthday. He asked me to recommend someone to lead his trek. Wallace was selected and he did not let Brian down, with him all the way, holding his hand; side by side they reached the end of their walk.
