MemberHi everyone,
So far so good with Trek 7 the trekkers who headed out last Wednesday, 24th September. Saprain the guy who won the FUN RUN recently held in Port Moresby is the main Guide and is certainly one of the fittest on the trail. In the recent fun run he came home in 19 minutes and 10th overall with very little training against guys who run regularly week in week out.
Our guide spoke to them on the radio and the whole group were doing ok.
Tonight they should be spending the night in village of Kagi. Kagi commands spectacular view of villages along the Kokoda Trail.
Will keep you posted if I hear of anything further.
Last report was that the young 20 year old was leading the group but then he has to as well as he is coming back one day earlier than the others as he has to fly back to Australia on morning of the 2nd October.
Trek 8 headed out to Kokoda this morning with 5 very excited trekkers including:
1. John Thompson
2. Steve Ovett
3. Geoff Campbell
4. Ross Eason
5. Alison Anis
6. Police Escort
7. Eric Uwea (Guide) and personal porter
8. Russel Eroro (General Manager PNG Trekking Ltd and Guide in charge of the trek)and their fellow wantoks acting as porters.
Kokoda in honour of their very important guest, former Olympic Gold Medalist and world record holder, Steve Ovett, together with his friends were to be entertained today with a Sing Sing.
With no phone contact, Russell sent me a message via Airlines of Papua New Guinea pilot to say everything was organised pending their arrival in Kokoda.
They should be overnighting in the village of Hoi.
Trekkers as they headed out this morning on their flight to Kokoda to commence their 9 day trek of the Kokoda Trail:

MemberMalum Nalu (ex Tourism Promotion Authority) and now back as a feature writer with the Post Courier) seen here with Steve Ovett at Friday nights function at the Holiday Inn.
Leading up to Steve coming to PNG, I was at the Yacht Club with Malum and other previous trekkers when Malum got a little tipsy or as they say here in PNG, spaked, and if he said it once, he must have said it three times….
"STEVE OVETT, THE LEGEND, is coming to PNG………..
