Note: The above figures are compiled from data collected from issued Kokoda Track Permits. There are no statistics of persons trekking the Kokoda Track without valid Trek Permits.
As of 1 January, 2006, Kokoda Track Authority is the sole issuing authority for individual or group Trek Permits for the Kokoda Track (Trail). No other permits will be accepted.
Rangers employed by the Kokoda Track Authority as of June, 2006 will be greeting all trekkers and inspecting their group or individual Trek Permits. This is part of their duty as well as attending to inspecting track and bridge, camping ground, guest house and water supply, etc conditions and attending to any community or trekker complaints which may arise.
Any trekker or trekking group without a valid KTA issued Trek Permit will be stopped and their Tour Operator base contacted by KTA via the KTA Track VHF radio or by telephone.
Trek Permit fees for such trek are to be paid before the trekker or trekking group proceeds.
