MemberYesterday (September 30th) one of the biggest television Network in Australia, Channel 9 featured a group trekkers from Australia who recently completed walking through Papua New Guinea?s famous 96km WWII trek ? The Kokoda Trail.
The group of 36 friends from Kangaroobie, Princetown ,Victoria namely Michael Barrand; Campbell Beadman; Tom Birch; Will Bowes; Sarah Bowes; Matt Bowker; Virginia Boyce; James Brady; Helen Casey; John Davies; Roger Devine; Jamie Govenlock; Jane Harrison; Andy Haslam; Sarah Horan; Alex Lee; Jessica Lees; Susan Melbourne; Brad Partridge; Clair Partridge; Ian Patching; Lacklan Pfeiffer; John Prossor; Jeff Rogers; Vern Tessier; Shirley Tessier; Kim Thompson; Alexandra Thomson; Mark Thomson; Ken Trembath; Pam Trembath; Gerard Tuck; Matt Vicars; Howard West; Simon Jones; James Worladge and Sally Johnston,
were featured on Nine?s popular morning bulletin – the Today?s Show. The trekkers arrived in Papua New Guinea two days before their trek and in the wake of the country?s Independence Day which fell on the 16th of September 2004.
They were met by Gail Thomas ? Managing Director of Extreme Kokoda Trekking Adventure Tours (EKTAT) and Trek Organiser for Kokoda Trekking Limited (KTL) and her associate Russell Eroro who initially organized their 9 Day trek through the infamous trail.
It was the largest group that ever trekked through the company and the experience porters and guides provided by the company were able to carry them towards the end of the trek which was a victorious ending for them.
Trek leaders, Mark Thompson and Jane Harrison appeared on Today?s Show and were interviewed by one of their news reporter who asked them about their experiences along the trail.
Both Mark and Jane gave positive comments on their trip and were glad to share about their experiences on the trail.
The group who followed the footsteps of the Australian diggers and soldiers who bravely fought off the Advancing Japanese forces on the hazardous trail walked in honor of the fallen soldiers during the WWII.
Ends?//Sally Johnston, seen here in this photograph was not part of the original group but someone who wanted to join at the last minute the trek heading out on the same date. Initially Sally was to trek with two other people but unfortunately they could not come and the 36 members of this team welcomed her with open arms and asked that she join their trek. We at http://www.kokodatrail.com.pg thank them for their kindness and I am sure Sally now has 36 more people she would consider friends after their 9 days on the trail together.
