MemberI read this somewhere and now can't find the information. It was due to be on this Friday (or possibly the weekend?) Does anyone know anything about this as I'd like to attend.

MemberI understand there is to be a public opening of the Kokoda Memorial Wall at Cascade Gardens, Broadbeach this Friday which coincides with Kokoda Day, 8th August annuallly, and celebrates the retaking of Kokoda by the Aussie troops during WW2. The memorial wall is most impressive and all intending trekkers who are able to visit it will go away with added inspiration.
Further details of the Kokoda Day service should be available by contacting Gold Coast City Council. Also refer to my post of 29th July, General Discussions, Topic, "Lonely, How about joining us".

MemberHi Fluppy,
in case you are interested, Kokoda Day will also be celebrated at Sherwood RSL on the 10/8/2008( sunday) be there at 10.50am. here you will be able to meet and be able to converse with all the 49th, 39th and some of the 2/14th diggers who are still able to make it.
Kokoda Day is as important if not more than ANZAC day to these diggers, dad used to say that ANZAC Day was very special, but Kokoda Day (8/8/08) was THEIR day. It is a lovely ceremony and Soc Kenzile is guest speaker this year. I am sure they would love to have the support of anyone who would like to attend. I am going, hope to see you there.
