MemberAs we walk every step of the way, I didn?t count the pain, nor steps, my breaths came in little gasps, my hands shaking and my heart pounding not from fear ? but of what was ahead, of what would become of me, of Steve, Ross, John and Geoff ? We are history mate and we are happy just to have done it for a great friend, We made it! Oh yes we made it to the top of Ower?s Corner but you are the hero Richard. No, you didn?t get any medal, though you deserved one, but you left a mark through your kindness and by the show of your love. Your crown of gold awaits you in heaven. Yes many will have come to pass through this track but yours will be the history in many ways. You are truly a wonderful person, a teacher in many ways and many will remember the good that was in you.
Rest in peace Richard!

Richard, many thanks for making it possible for me to go on the track. Like they say, I gladly followed in their (ancestor?s) footsteps. Big thanks also to the guys, Steve, Ross, John and Geoff for your great company and for making the trek an enjoyable one. You guys are funny and had a ?wild? sense of humour!
Special thanks to my boss meri Gail Thomas (Rait Meri), who was very supportive from the beginning right to the very end. It was indeed an enjoyable trip and I am looking forward to another one in future.

MemberRussell commented to us, that in all his 139 treks, he has never walked up the last hill at Ower's Corner and been met by EMTV – this is definitely a FIRST but he hopes its not the last as he would love to take more BIG MEN on the Kokoda Trail – a place he calls home!
