MemberFor customs. Dr needs to write a letter of all medications we will be taking. Am I doing it too early or should I leave it for another week?

MemberI'd do it now Fluppy – one more thing to tick of the 'to do' list. I carried my medications in my carry on luggage ( and wore my hiking boots… just in case my booked gear went astray), but nobody even checked. Your bag is scanned and that is that.

MemberThey dont normally care about medications for walking the track as every trekker carries prescriptions drugs. We got told this by the nice lady at PNG customs .
Its just as well because we never thought about a letter from our Dr and we were carrying antibiotics and a few other odds and ends.01/10/2009 at 9:57 am #103191Boss Meri
MemberHere in PNG the main thing they look out for at customs is things that we are not allowed to bring into the country such as 'eggs'; 'seeds'; 'grass seeds' and so on.
Also any goodies we may buy overseas that they can hit us with duty for…such as electrical items!
For people like us who live here, we remove any price tags; get rid of the camera boxes in Oz otherwise they will ask us to provide dockets/invoices and will charge us accordingly for import duty.
As for trekkers I guess they would be more lenient. As for medication, I have never had anything like this checked before. They are mostly looking per above for stuff they can hit us money for.
A few weeks back I brought back with me some packaged flower seeds which normally are ok. However, they took 50% off me as the only recognised brand name is YATES. I asked why allow them and not the others. They replied that YATES are the only people who have asked authorities to go to Australia to check their products.
Oh well I guess YATES have PNG sown up as there is no competition presently allowed re imports.

MemberHey Fluppy!
I had to take "controlled drugs" with me. I just made sure I had the letter with the rest of my travel papers. The most important thing is keeping your medications in their original containers in case you do get checked for some reason.
Getting close now!! Best of luck!!
