Ricko
MemberI am heading off to do my first Kokoda trek in about 4 weeks. Apart from anti malaria tablets is it recommended to get any inoculations such as Hep A and B, Typhoid etc. Any advice would be great.
ThanksRick

MemberWere the anti-malaria tablets recommended by your doctor? I always feel that it's wisest to consult your doctor around 6 weeks before travelling as they generally have a good idea of what vaccinations you need for each location.

MemberI am trekking next June, and am in the process of getting my Hep B shots. I also intend to get Typhoid, tetanus, and update polio vacc before I leave. My Dr says I only need to do these a couple of weeks before I go. She will also start me on malaria tabs at that time.

MemberYou will need Hep A & B, Typhoid, tetnus & polio. Apparently there is a short course and a long course, the short course consists of an injection every week for 4 weeks, which is what we had.
I would definately say you would need all of the above, typhiod is rife up there as is Hep A & B.
the malaria tablets are taken 1 a day a week before you leave, while you are there and 4 weeks after you come back, at the same time every day. Once you discover the delights of the toilets on the track, you will see why the need for all the shots! Take some anti bacterial wipes and some waterless dettol hand wash and where there are seats, DONT sit on them.cheers
