    Hi guys and girls
Just a quick question how can I stop blisters on my hand from when I walk with a stick
I have just been using any old stick I can find in the bush
And every time I use one the part in between my thumb and fore finger gets blistered

    cheers

After five decades of active involvement in the sport of rowing, experience has taught me that only continuous use will sufficently toughen you hands to avoid blisters.
Assuming you time is limited before your trek I would recommend you try either the following,
Cycling mits, should you decide to continue with a bush stick or
Telescopic walking stick (s) with moulded handle grip available from most specialist outdoor shops.
Good quality ones can be expensive however I know they can be found in discount shops for a fraction of the normal cost. One of our group in August last had one and it survived Kokoda. He may have been fortunate though because the terrain is generally not kind on poor quality equipment, especially walking sticks.
I personally used two of a good quality and found them excellent.
    Cheers, Geoff Hardie

    Hi ryan,

my son & I just used a pair of cotton gardening gloves we picked up at Bunnings, they worked fine, and we didn't find that they made our hands sweat at all. We both used walking sticks the natives cut for us.

Gloves are a great asset. You'll be grabbing trees, vines, rocks, sliding down sheer drops.
Your hands do cop a pounding.
i had a left and right handed golf glove for each hand, chopped the tops off the fingers and they worked a treat.

    Hey

My partener and I used fingerless bike gloves with padded palm on the trek worked great, but ditched them at the end as they were pretty rank by the end.

i agree with Karen, i used my left glove and lent the right to another treker. still in good enough condition to use back home and they save the hands.

When I was on the trek I used fingerless gym gloves with padded area for the plam. They were great and not that expensive to buy. At the end of the trek I washed them and the cleaned up really well and I was able to use them in the gym again.
