MemberI was reading that a guide is a 'necessity' unless an experienced trekker or have completed the Kokoda previously.
Now what specifically is 'an experienced trekker'. I would consider myself experienced in Australian conditions, but not internationally. Having been training by the Australian Army, I would consider myself well equiped to handle this.
Is this incorrect?
Thanks for any suggestions

MemberHaving just completed and sitting here with my friend who walked alongside me, we think anyone would be crazy to walk alone.
Because of various reasons such as:
a) Pack weight – its always easier to have someone to share the load
B) Humidity which is extremely high and you sweat a lot
c) Personal Safety and Security
d) The track is dangerous in lots of places and if you didnt have anyone with you, who would even know you were missing or had slipped over the side.
e) Language / communication
f) Being unaware of local cultures & conditions
g) Also going with a guide there are also so many postives to having a guide/porter.
h) The track at certain points is also local knowlege and is not clearly marked in lots of places such as interactionsWe passed on the track four separate army groups from Townsville and they all had several national (png staff) with them. With the exception of one group who was just starting out….all the other three groups were really doing it tough when we walked past them….
