MemberIs the Gateway Hotel close enough to walk to from the Airport? Or do KTL pick us up?
What are the best options for hotel transfers in PT Moresby? We leave in 4 weeks.

MemberHi
I have booked into the Gateway as far as I am aware they have a Airport-Hotel and reverse pickup service.
I used the net to make my revservation and I am sure that the reply I got mentioned this.

MemberIs it close to walk – yep. Would I – not a chance in hell.
The hotel has a bus that runs pretty constantly. I got in at 12.30 am and was at the hotel about half an hour later.

MemberHi there, yes to all above. The Gateway Hotel (and in fact all hotels) offer a free courtesy bus from the airport to the hotel. We then meet with trekkers at 6pm poolside unless there is a huge group when we then arrange a private room for our briefing.
Is it safe to walk, no, please wait for the Gateway bus. Its blue in colour and if you are booked at their hotel they will have your name on their list for a pickup.
They have buses plural that run back and forth all day long from the airport to the hotel which is approximately 5 – 7 minutes away from the international airport.
Looking forward to meeting up with you in the very near future.

MemberHi,
you could probably see the airport from the hotel, but there is no way in hell i would walk there! Port Moresby is not the safest place in the world. Get the bus, they go back and forth quite often or a cab.14/07/2008 at 12:13 pm #99450Earthboy_rod
MemberSince I'm still at the Gateway thought I'd comment on this one. in the 5 days staying here I've walked up to the airport 3 times and during the day for exercise and have no problem with it. It's about 15 mins walk and in a pinch i would even with my pack. But why would you when they have a free shuttle.
I might add also I've walked twice into Boroko and back, caught PMV's around and walked arounf Town. To me it's a little safer then some African Cities like Nairobi and as long as your security smart, stick to the main roads, paths during the day there isn't a problem.
Yes I've heard one story of an aussie lady getting robbed at the botanical gardens but on the main roads during the day I don't think so. But there does seem to be alot of talk about the safety in POM, but how muchy is based on hearsay and truth?
