Received yesterday an email from one of our trekkers that I would like to share with you our readers: quote

    Hi Gail

I just want to thank you again for you organasition of our trek and the wonderful way you looked after us while we were in PNG. Organising a day in Moresby for all of us was above and beyond what you needed to do for us, and we are really appreciative. Especially when we bumped into another group at the airport and one of their group had their passport and camera stolen at the markets we were at – with Jesse and your driver we were in really safe hands.

I cannot speak highly enough of our guides and porters. They looked after us in the true tradition of the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels and are a credit to your company, My own personal porter, Wallace, was exceptional. I had some old ankle injuries flare up and hamper me on the downhills and Wallace was there every step of the way with me. My plan was to follow in his footsteps and I couldnt have had better footsteps to follow. As well as supporting him, he was a true companion and I was very proud when one of the other porters offered him some chocolate, and he said "No, that OK, my friend (me) gave me some."

I was very moved by the condition of the hospital ai Kokoda and the difficulties some of the porters go through. The hospital is badly in need of new bedding and we know that one of our guides, Vincent, who is also a nurse at the hospital walks an hour and a half to work and then the same back each day – how much easier would things be if he had a bicycle. Has anyone ever brooched the idea of having a fund on your website where trackers could make a contribution to the needs of the people in Kokoda – they have done so much for us, it would be nice to have an opportunity to repay them in some way. Even a little from those trackers who were interested in doing something could make a big difference – we take so much for granted.

Thank you again for the experience of a lifetime. When people ask me about walking the track, I will tell them the first thing they have to do is contact Kokoda Trekking and everything will fall into place from there.

    name withheld for privacy reasons.
