MemberHas anyone stayed at the Comfort Inn? It is cheaper than the Gateway Hotel, which is why I ask. I wondered if anyone can give me any info on the service they got, whether they could leave a bag there while on the trek, etc.

MemberHi Mrs Moo,
I wouldnt be looking at the cheapest accomodation in Moresby. Remember that this is a third world country, and you need to be booked into somewhere that is easily accesable to the airport. Who ever you have booked your trek with, should arrange accomodation for you. Without wanting to scare you, Port Moresby is a lot different to Australia and you need to be very careful where you stay. I would be advising you very strongly to arrange accomodation at one of the upmarket hotels, that supply transport to and from the airport and that cater for the tourists ( no public transport here and you wouldn't want to be catching a taxi) . Especially as you female. You may have to pay a little more, but you will be a lot safer.

MemberThe Comfort inn is quite a way from the airport – not sure if they do a shuttle like the Gateway. The Gateway is a good choice – It`s central to the Airport and also pretty close to the Cemetery dependant on which way you are trekking.

MemberThanks for your advice. Looks like the Gateway may be the best way to go after all.

MemberHi Mrs Moo,
In october i did the trek and before we started i stayed at the comfort Inn…….MMMMM very interesting. I found the rooms dirty, the shared bathroom accomodation disgusting and the breakfast VERY ordinary, in fact it should be named the "uncomfort Inn". I had no choice as the tour group i went with had this place for our pretrek gathering. My tent and the campsites we were at along the track were much better !!
On my return, i booked myself in at the Airways hotel – VERY NICE INDEED, get yourself an "ORCHARD ROOM" and live it up after you have done the trek – you will deserve it. They even took me to the airport in a merc – whooo hooo. The Airways is really close to the airport and they do have shuttle busses to and from, they even shuttle you to where ever you want in moresby basically, dont know if thats a normal service or they just did it to me cause im such a nice guy !!!
The Comfort Inn do have a shuttle to the airport but DONT GO THERE – ITS A SHOCKER !!!
Hope this message recieves you BEFORE you leave

MemberActually my two sons and I stayed at the Lutheran Guest House in Hohola. The rooms were clean and tidy and you get to mix with the Nationals although there were Australians there when we stayed. Joanne the manageress is strict and her relative Peter will take you where you have to go. I seem to remember it being about 20 minutes to the Gateway. The rates were very reasonable and they are in the phone book. Libby

MemberRe Comfort Inn: We had two female trekkers arrive in Port Moresby who booked in at the Weigh Inn Hotel. Can't remember the reason why but the night before their trek they had booked in at the Comfort Inn.
Apparently they arrived at the Comfort Inn…. spent 2-3 hours there before deciding to book out and head back to the Weigh Inn.
By the time we met up with the that night they did not have too many nice things to say about the Comfort Inn
When they arrived back from the trail they went back to the Weigh Inn all over again as it seems they enjoyed their stay there.
Our preferred hotel is the Gateway Hotel as the majority of our trekkers stay there and the staff all know us really well and take good care of our trekkers. In April the costs go up for all trekkers the first hike in two years.
Best to book well in advance however as for some reason or other accommodation is at a premium these days and the Gateway Hotel is pretty much full day in day out!

MemberWow, I'm glad I asked! Thanks for the warnings, guys. I will cross Comfort Inn off my list. Hopefully I will be able to book at the Gateway, as I am not trekking until June (or even later, depending on my daughter's change of jobs!)
I appreciate your answers.
