MemberIt was with sadness but also joy that today I met again the Kincross family who tragically lost their only daughter in the plane crash on the 11th August, 2010.
Some family members will be at a service to be held at the Australian High Commission premises but for the Kincross family the place they wanted to be was at the area where their daughter Hannah lost her life, Haila Village on the outskirts of Kokoda.
This time last year we met with several family members of victims who lost their lives along with Lady Carol Kidu who accompanied them on a walk up to the crash site. This time they will walk by themselves along with our staff and the councillor of Haila Village and other porters also from that village.
Russell Eroro also lost his eldest brother in the crash and his widow will walk up and meet with them on the morning of the 11th August at Haila and will walk with them to the crash site.
After spending time with them last year, I felt immediately at ease with this family and my heart once again goes out to them for the loss of their daughter.
The Kincross family also sponsor some students through a scholarship set up with the Kokoda Track Authority so no doubt may pop into the school on their way back to our base Orohaven Kokoda Retreat.
The plan this time is for them to spend the night at Orohaven tomorrow night. The following day they will walk up to Isurava Memorial area to overnight. The following day around to Alola and then make their way to Haila Village. The next day they will walk up to the crash site before walking down to Kanandara Village for the night. The day after they will walk to Rusty's family block to spend time with their family and the night. On the 12th they will overnight at Orohaven again before flying back into Port Moresby on our charter.
On the 11th August join with us in mourning the tragic loss of lives of those who perished in the Airlines PNG twin otter flight.

MemberAs we had a trekker to drop off at Owers' Corner they tagged along for the drive although Adam struggled to stay awake as he was out on the town last night. At Owers' Corner we took some photographs of the family.

MemberOn the 9th August Sunbird Aviation with Michael Butler as the pilot flew the Kincross family into Kokoda where they spent the night at our base Orohaven Kokoda Retreat. This morning they had an early start as they commenced their walk up to Isurava Battlefield at 6:30am.
Have been advised that everything went ahead as planned and late this afternoon they should have reached their destination but am yet to hear from Paul Esiko their guide.
The councillor from Haila Village is with them along with some other personal porters and food porters. Tomorrow they will head to Haila Village.
Today they would have walked up through the choko fields on their way to Isurava.

MemberWherever you are today spare a thought for those who perished in the 2009 Airlines PNG flight to Kokoda. Jannie Moala, Royden Soauka and Kingsley Eroro from PNG. Katsuo Takahasi from Japan. Hannah Kinross, Kelly Weire, Max Cranwell, Leanne Harris, Evan Comrie, Peter Holliday, Matthew Leonard, Keith Gracie and Dr June Canavan all from Australia. Our thoughts are with all families as we too mourn the loss of Kingsley Eroro, Russell's eldest brother. Grace his widow and neices, nephews and other family members have walked up today to the crash site to join with the Kincross family at Haila Village crash site area. Other family members are gathering in Port Moresby. May they rest in peace.
At Orohaven Kokoda Retreat we have erected a rock wall where plaques in memory of Kingsley, Hannah and Kelly have been placed. Any other relatives are also welcome to add a plaque should they wish to do so.

MemberDear Gail
Would you mind passing on my Sincere Condolences to Sue and Colin and Adam on the Anniversay of their tragic loss of their Daughter Hannah, who together with a number of other Trekkers and Adventurers, were passengers and crew of the unfortunate plane crash last year.
We can't change history and events, but I'm sure that they live for the memories of their Daughter.
Their tragic loss was a loss for all the Kokoda, Oro Province and PNG community and they will never be forgotten. Our thoughts are with all the families at this sad time.
Vale Hannah
Gail, please also pass on my thoughts, prayers and best wishes to Russell and his family, on their tragic loss of Kingsley.
Warm regards
Warren
