Closure Trekking Myola Until Further Notice

The following message was received today 22nd March, 2005:

TO: ALL TOUR OPERATORS & BUSINESSES OPERATING ALONG KOKODA TRACK.

REF: CLOSURE OF TREKKING INTO MYOLA PENDING COURT DECISION OF LAND DISPUTE

Please be advised as per 2004 court decision of Land dispute in Myola is still on going, therefore refrain any trekking activities into this area.

We are on the final decision of the Court and if the Court rules in favour of us, the previous court order for eviction will take place.

This is matter that is involving the Landowners only and Tour Operators should NOT come in between to stir people up.

I plead for your understanding as the matter will be resolved shortly and all trekking may continue as normal, but for the present please consider the legal implications if you are to venture into that area.

Myola – for those of you who do not know, Myola is roughly three hours in and out off the track itself so wont affect the ordinary everyday trekker.
