    Hi everyone,

I'm looking at doing the Trail towards the end of the year. Not being a seasoned trekker anymore having done all my travels 10 years ago after finishing Uni, I'm pretty much out of the scene.

So I was wondering where in Sydney people go nowadays to get all their gear? I see Paddy Pallin and Kathmandu are still about, anywhere else?

I'm looking at getting the basics first (boots, socks, clothes to wear in) then onto the other equipment (tents, bags, mats etc). Is there a one-stop shop who will look after me and provide a good honest service, without trying to flog something cos it's got a higher commission on it.

I used to be a Scarpa fan for boots, having trekked around the world in a pair. But have been hearing good things about Meindls. Is Berghaus still good quality gear for clothing?

    Thanks in advance!!

    Hi Menthe

Just in response to your request, I was able to pick up most of my gear off ebay and a few items at the Warehouse (tent, sleeping bag and ground foam) and they were more than adequate. My shoes I got from a shop at Erina (just can't remember the name) and they were superb, $109 down to $59. I even contacted the shop again to tell them how good they were. I'll research my previous emails and check-up on the name for you.

    Cheers

    Hi,
I have been a huge fan of the Meindls for a long time now and just finished the track in a pair of Makalus. They were superb. A little trick when trying to dry your boots at night, the porters try to do the right thing but sometimes they put them a bit close to the fire and they come off second best. Didn't happen to me as I wouldn't be able to explain this away to my wife and then buy another pair but it did happen to a few guys. I lost a pair of 2 day of $50 Thorlo socks to the fire gods, but hey that's life. Great trek though.l
