MemberWe had two treks staying in Efogi at the same campsite as Kurt and they said he was in good spirits but was suffering from blisters on his thumb. However being the true champion that he is, tomorrow he will finish his trek.
Tonight when up at the Gateway Hotel there seemed a lot of people around near the reception desk looking like they were in the same group. When we met with our trekkers, it was mentioned that the media were in town. Not too sure if they were Channel 7 or 9 but driving back I mentioned this to Russell that they might be here to see Kurt cross the finish line at Owers' Corner.
He bet me that they were flying into Kokoda tomorrow and commencing a trek. No doubt sooner or later we will find out.
To think of Kurt crawling the track is mind blowing, and we salute him and congratulate him, what an achievement! What an inspiration to everyone!!!
Lets get behind this guy and let him know through this forum what we all think of his mighty effort, well done Kurt you have our vote.

MemberTrekkers returning from the track along with myself ran into Mike Munro and his camerman on the steps of the Gateway Hotel yesterday. Funny how you picture them when you see them on TV. For me somehow I thought Mike would have been shorter but turns out he is a tall strong looking guy. He was quite friendly and greeted us with a smile and a few words.
His camerman stopped to talk to our trekkers before heading inside the hotel. Mike on the other hand looked like a man on a mission but nice all the same. Apparently Kurt had no idea his parents would be in Port Moresby to meet him, what a wonderful gesture Channel 7, well done as I am sure it would have brought a smile to his face at the finish line at Owers' Corner.

MemberIt is an amazing feat…Im sure we will hear about this amazing effort…….the walk is tough enough on two legs…..The history of the Kokoda campaign tells a story about Corporal John Metson who after being shot in both ankles refused to be carried by his mates…He crawled in the jungle for 3 weeks to escape capture by the Japanese army….unfortunately he and a small band of other soldiers were found and executed by the Japanese Army…..
Kurts proposed walk was well publicised in Sydney….it will be interesting to hear his story19/11/2009 at 1:51 am #103626Fluppy
MemberI have been following Kurt's story and his ambitions for quite some time now. He truly is an inspiration and as Crowie said, Cpl John Metson did indeed crawl the Kokoda track as well. In fact, it was he who at the time was my inspiration to keep going.
Kurt shows us all, that if you can dream it, you can make it happen. Good on you Kurt!

MemberI'm a little torn in two ways about this story, even though I truly appreciate his amazing effort and courage.
I must say, two days from the end of our trek when my knee suddenly gave me incredible pain and I could hardly walk, my carrier mentioned the other boys told him to make sure I took it easy, because they weren't going to help him carry me (jokingly). I said (very indignantly LOL), "You can tell the boys I WILL NOT be carried out of here! If a guy can crawl out of here in the middle of a war, I can darn well WALK out with a bit of knee pain!! Besides, your knee is sore, too, and if anyone's going to be doing any carrying, I'll carry YOU out of here!" LOL, yes, I'm stubborn!
I'm looking forward to watching the story….sigh…with a box of tissues, no doubt. Kokoda can do with the positive press right now.

MemberHi Eve.
Your right about the positive press. Its normally all doom and gloom, death and carnage. Something like this will help balance it out a bit.

MemberI've got to say I was disappointed with the program on ch7. I was looking forward to it.
No doubt a fantastic achievement for Kurt, and no criticism of him, but the camera crew clearly only stuck with him for a day (no more than 2) at both ends of the track. If you missed it (and like I) was keen to see Kurt battle the track and relive it to some extent…you didn't miss much.

MemberI felt a bit the same. I think the whole story was about 7 minutes. Not long enough at all. I would have liked to see more….but bloody good achievement on his part, nonetheless.

MemberAgreed. Congratulations to Kurt who did an absolute superb effort and finished the track. Shame on channel 7 for not covering more of his trek – I guess they couldn't keep up or hadn't done any prior training

MemberThe thing at Brisbane airport was totally unacceptable. Youd think people who worked at the airport would have more brains than to let something like that happen.
Especially to someone as high profile as Kurt. - AuthorPosts
